Cissé to Sunderland
According to L'équipe and the OM website, Djibril Cissé has agreed a season long loan deal to Sunderland.

If it is a loan deal, whilst Jones fully recovers then it sounds like a good deal indeed. Even if and when he plays Cr@p he will still bang away the goals.

Re: Cissé to Sunderland
Doesn't look like there's enough goals in that team. Cisse was hardly prolific in Prem last time out. Diouf won't get more than 10.Parks lives wrote:Kimbo wrote:Parks lives wrote:If it is a loan deal, whilst Jones fully recovers then it sounds like a good deal indeed. Also the midfield looks a bit slow, Richardson aside. It's solid enough, should be safe from relegation, but can't see them getting up the table much.
On wiki they have over 40 players listed. They surely gotta be clearing a few out...Cisse, Diouf, Jones, Chopra, Murphy, Waghorn, Connolly, Prica, Stokes. 9 strikers. Crazy.

Re: Cissé to Sunderland
Don't know, Malbranque and Richardson are both capable of 5 - 10. Diouf like you say will get 10+. Then with Cisse depends how he fairs, if he's given penalties and plays the focal point at least until Jones returns, there's no reason he couldn't get around 1 in 2 or 2 in 5 for them.
Obviously I'd like them to do well though, so I may be looking at it with a different view.
The interesting thing would be what happens when Jones returns, does he play Diouf, Jones and Cisse all in the same team. Because whilst it would add goal power, they may lose a bit in midfield.

you can call cisse a c**t for doing absolutely nothing, but if I say the same about any of your players who are actually c**ts there is something wrong with it

Debaser has been most terribly misinterpreted this day.
But I do agree with Parky in that I think Cisse on loan sounds like a very fair and sensible move for Sunderland, given Jones's injury.
I actually think that Keane has done reasonably well with his transfers this summer. He's surprised me a little because he has at least taken a few risks - I didn't expect him to go for players like Diouf, Chimbonda and Cisse - players who are talented but whose attitudes are questionable at best. Of course, I'm sure that Keane thinks very highly of himself, that he will consider himself most capable of keeping such players in line whilst getting the best out of them. And, especially since Keane will throw a fit if any of them do step out of line, these signings have the potential to go very wrong. (Incidentally, and I'm speculating as to Keane's reasoning here, I took it as funny that he subbed off three of his four new signings against Liverpool at the weekend - mustn't let the new boys get too big for their boots).
But still, I think they are positive signings in that they've brought talent to Sunderland. And overall, even if he overspent a little bit on the Tottenham players, I think Keane has quite significantly strengthened Sunderland's first team over the summer. Diouf and Cisse should give a bit of pace and creativity in attack; I think Malbranque will prove a very solid player in midfield; and Chimbonda should add to a defence that struggled last season. I'm not enthralled by Tainio and Reid in the centre of midfield, and Sunderland still look very weak in the centre of defence for me - I think Kaboul would have been a good purchase for them. And it's true that they have a huge squad now, and they'll have to sell players, a number of whom will go for much less than Sunderland paid for them. But whilst I don't see Sunderland finishing in the top ten or anything this season, I do think they'll be comfortable.

Cissé wasn't started in the first two games of the season (despite having an excellent pre-season), and basically got stroppy and decided to leave, and try a regain a place in the French squad.

This might not go ahead yet as Cisse has still gotta agree personal terms (Why would someone wanna go there?!). Don't rate him that highly but he can't be worse up front than some of their current sh*t, such as Rade Prica and Michael Chopra.

Good deal for Sunderland...he's assembled a nice little team. Sure he's paid out some silly money...and could continue...but they stayed up last year and have improved squad wise. Everyone laughed at £6m for Kenwyne Jones...what a bargain that turned out to be. Players like Malbranque, Tainio, Chimbonda, Cisse, Diouf will all add a bit of quality to Sunderland.

Re: Cissé to Sunderland
Chopra scored 6 goals in 21 starts for Sunderland last season - including the two goals that got Sunderland 1-0 wins against Tottenham and Aston Villa; including goals that contributed to wins against Fulham and Middlesbrough; and including a goal that helped Sunderland to a draw at Birmingham. This compares to Kenwyne Jones's 7 goals in 33 starts. Perhaps Jones contributes more to the team - he's certainly a modern forward, in that he's big and strong and acts as a target man - but Chopra's touch and build up play is underrated I think, and he does have an eye for goal. Whatever, Sunderland have numerous forwards in their squad worse than Chopra - I think he can do a job in the Premier League.
