Apparently they are closing in on a loan deal for Ivanovic with the option to buy.

I don't know why you're worried about Milan, blue9. They still have far too many old players and if Kaka does leave, they are completely screwed.

Kaka won't leave, but IMO Milan still have a squad that's going to have consistent fitness problems throughout the season. tbh, none of the Italian sides look particularly formidable right now from a European perspective, at least until Mourinho manages to settle in.
In the league, it'll be a close fight as each of the "big 5" have strengths, but also glaring weaknesses, that will make for an interesting season.

I don't buy the too old arguement... sure, last season they had gaps, but now they have bought (or brought back) Borriello, Ronaldinho, Zambrotta, Flamini, Abbiati, Antonini, Cardaccio, & Viudez. The only thing now lacking is a quality CB backup. So if Ivanovic arrives, IMO Milan are as strong as they ever were in this decade.
--------------------Abbiati
Zambrotta - Nesta - Ivanovic - Jankulovski
---------Flamini - Pirlo - Seedorf
---------------Kaka - Dinho
--------------------Pato
Subs: Dida, Kalac, Kaladze, Bonera, Maldini, Oddo, Favalli, Antonini, Gattuso, Emerson, Ambrosini, Brocchi, Cardaccio, Viudez, Borriello, Inzaghi, Paloschi.
Don't know about you, but thats a very strong squad.... who will have no CL distractions. Yeah, this will be Inter's biggest competition domestically.

I think the Milan sides look formidable for their european competitions... Inter are having a pretty decent pre-season, considering the amount of injuries the squad currently has... once players are fit (and that is expected soon), and the players start gelling in the new tactics, this could be our best team in Europe since the 60s. Of course, there is always a bit of doubt when a new coach takes over... only time will tell whether Mourinho can build on all the good work done by Mancio to make immediate impact.kas wrote:Kaka won't leave, but IMO Milan still have a squad that's going to have consistent fitness problems throughout the season. tbh, none of the Italian sides look particularly formidable right now from a European perspective, at least until Mourinho manages to settle in.

Juve need a good draw to make an impact, and if they get a decent draw and make the KO rounds, they could go far.... Roma are looking terrible and need 1-2 quality players.... Fiorentina are too inexperienced for us to expect anything - they will also need a good draw to make the KO rounds, which will be an achievement for them this season.

Milan will be formidable in the UEFA Cup assuming they pay it any attention.
I think Juve will be solid but won't get past the QFs. Florentina will probably place some nice football but either get knocked out in the group states or QF. Roma will struggle. Inter will be difficult to beat, but I don't think they have enough creativity in midfield to to make the Semis.

In terms of quality, Juve is the worst out of the Italian teams, but they have pretty good depth, and should get a decent group draw because of their prior CL runs. Fiorentina look better IMO though the group draw could be tough on them. I think they'll be doing very well if they make the QF.
Roma are an outside bet, they could go to the semi's or the final with a bit of luck, but its most likely that they'll go out in the QF again. Even if they get Baptista, i still think they need a quality winger aswell. Esposito and Taddei won't cut it. Inter have the biggest chance obviously. Defensively they will be very solid, but not sure Mourinho's 4-3-3 will suit them team, plus if he is planning to use that formation then Moratti should've bought Quaresma, instead of wasting his money on a backup DM. Would make them less reliant on Ibra aswell. I think they should try and use Chivu in midfield aswell, that would give them more creativity.

Juve are not that bad, they have an advantage over clubs like Fiorentina coz most of their players have quality CL experience. It makes a big difference.BoBo Vieri 32 wrote:

But Juve are in pot 3, so they could potentially get a nightmarish draw like ManU-Real!! Ditto Fiorentina, who are in pot 4 and surely will get a tough draw.

I took a brief look yesterday at some of the transfers made by those Serie A teams not part of bluenine's list (which list is very helpful by the way - to bluenine! ), and I saw that Catania have made a few interesting buys. They've bought a lot of players, including Ledesma and Silvestre from Boca Juniors (the latter on loan), and Nicolae Dica from Steaua Bucharest, and from what little I've seen of Dica, he certainly looks like a talented player. Do people reckon that they'll struggle again this year; or does Zenga have what it takes to make the team gel?

Yeah, Catania have been very impressive this summer - some great buys, using Zenga's experience in eastern europe. Also, they made their moves very early in the summer, which should have given them the extra time to gel over the summer.Bashmachkin wrote:I took a brief look yesterday at some of the transfers made by those Serie A teams not part of bluenine's list (which list is very helpful by the way - to bluenine! ), and I saw that Catania have made a few interesting buys. Zenga has been very impressive as a coach since he took over Catania, I think they will do well. I won't be surprised if his self assessment is correct, and Catania finish 10th.

Comforting. But there are many competent CBs out there, Milan could still make a move for any of them...

Rumours insist that Inter are planing to make a serious bid for the argie talent, Diego "Goodnight"... This sounds good to me, loved his goal in the olympics, and we need an AM. He will probably warm the bench most of the time, but will be a great buy for the future.

Hey, we are seriously short on Argie brigade these days, just 6 - Zanetti, Samuel, Burdisso, Cambiasso, Cruz & Crespo. With Crespo likely to be sold, we might end up having as many Italians (5) and Brasilians (5) in our squad!!TM wrote:Another Argie...

does that mean the RQ deal is totally off? or just delayed? and what's happened to Rivas? is he injured aswell?
Apparently the RQ deal is back on, and Inter's bluff seems to have worked as Porto have lowered the asking price... the rumour is that Porto are agreeable to a bid of EUR 18 M plus Pele. This is getting interesting, as this seems to be a price that looks worth it.
Bobo, what do you think of all the rumours about Crespo joining Lazio? Looks like it is really happening!! Crespo, Rocchi, Pandev, Makinwa & Zarate - that will be a great attacking line-up, one of the best in Serie A!!!!!

YEh i hope he continues to play Pandev as a trequartista, at least against the smaller teams.
We're also close to getting Augusto Fernandez who is a very good talent but there's some problems with his passport which need to be sorted out. We're also linked with Pinzi of Udinese in a swap deal for Stendardo. Pinzi is good and could play in Ledesma's position but atm i think that is luxury we can't afford and we should make sure our defence is solid.
