O médio egípcio Mohamed Aboutreika, comandado por Manuel José no Al-Ahly, foi eleito pela Federação de História e Estatísticas do Futebol (IFFHS) o jogador mais popular do Mundo.



Aboutreika arrecadou 1.017.786 votos, levando a melhor sobre o avançado saudita Yasser Al-Qahtani, do Al-Hilal, que arrecadou 613.116 votos. O terceiro mais votado foi o iraquiano Younis Mahmoud.

Portugal também esteve representado na votação, com Cristiano Ronaldo a receber 10.438 votos, quedando-se pela 15.ª posição. Ricardo Carvalho ficou surge no 52.º posto, com 299 votos.

Aboutrika is certainly the most popular player in Africa, and probably the best player in Africa, so I guess it's no suprise that he's the most popular. Africa is massive.

There are two Africans on that list as posted. The random Asians on it are far more surprising, especially at 2 and 3.
