Teams that park the bus
Why do Chelsea, Liverpool, and Arsenal struggle against them but the Mancs don't?

Re: Teams that park the bus
Cos teams like Arsenal spend too much time dicking about in midfield whereas Man Utd have someone like Ronaldo who would be willing to shoot from 20+ yards?

Re: Teams that park the bus
Dont know about Chelsea as they used to batter past them but they beat Stoke etc , lets see the team you call parking the bus I guess Stoke , West Brom Fulham etc if you take these examples Liverpool failed to scored against two of these but they never ventured outside that maybe down to Liverpool lack of wing options somebody like Quaresma who can bring creativity and Liverpool will score 4 -5 past them.
Arsenal on the other hand , I dont think they parked the bus against Arsenal , Arsenal never dominated these games so far.

True. Man Utd are more direct in their style which is easier when you actually play with 2 wingers! which neither Chelsea,Liverpool and most definitely Arsenal don't. to contribute Man Utd have the best full back in the league attacking in Evra which also helps with the wing play.borocooper wrote:Cos teams like Arsenal spend too much time dicking about in midfield whereas Man Utd have someone like Ronaldo who would be willing to shoot from 20+ yards?

Re: Teams that park the bus
First please concisely tell who are the teams you think park the bus , WH did park the bus against Liverpool but they dont do that often , West Brom did it against us but they didnt against you (first game of the season Arsenal win by a very early goal).

That's not true, almost every team we played this season parked the bus, home and away.
Your point about Pool lacking good creative player like Quaresma is a good one

stoke, newcastle, west ham, everton, man city, villa, fulham etc basically every team outside the top 4 do.

Chelsea are very direct but the absence of Drogba is the reason why they struggle to beat these teams imo

Re: Teams that park the bus
We have the least creative players out of the top 4 teams, simple.
Gerrard and Alonso are well capable of playing a killer pass or hitting the target with a shot from distance but the others????? Either aren't capable of doing either or are just not consist in either department.
Also our general passing in the final third is inconistent as well and so our moves break down a lot more.

I dont think most teams park the bus , they arent as attacking and you dont expect them to be , they try to nullify the attack , parking the bus is what Hammers did at Anfield , we did at Barcelona , meaning leaving one two players first option is to defend and not others attack.

They probably dont shoot as often and probably arent quite as deadly.
Man Utd have more than just Ronaldo that will do it too. Rooney will take pot shots..Nani will take on some long range efforts..Carrick pretends that he can shoot on occasion..Rafu seems to fancy himself as a good striker of the ball..Scholes when around is capable..etc
Plus they have the better options for wing play too..Arsenal seem a bit light on wingers. Liverpool seem a bit $h!t with wingers..and Chelsea are a bit narrow other than Bosingwa.

They do DS, especially when they are playing away. All teams(bar Chelsea) have done it against us when they are playing at home too.

That's a good point, and these are all players(bar Scholes) that can dribble, so they can always make space space for themselves or team mates to shoot. Lampard for example, relies entirely on others( either by 1. dribble 2. knock down) to get space to pull the trigger but they lack option 1 coz their wingers aren't all that and option 2 isnt there coz of Drogba's absence.

I don't know who DS came to that conclusion but it is ludricous.
Under Rafa's regime only two teams have consistently come out and tried to attack us and that being Spurs and Aresnal.
Others have tried at various times but reverted back to their usual selfs the next season.
Chelsea and United are guilty of parking the bus when it comes to Anfield even and us likewise but with us it was more down to lack of threat upfront and we really had to feed off scraps.

If Glenn puts a few more pics up of Ronaldo, combined with the refs he pretty much has the answer all of us are looking for
Every week in the matchday thread you can almost be guaranteed to see a Pierre post moaning about the crucial and often illegitimate first goal the ref has awarded to united

And they are the most important in matches like those coz that means the oppo would have to come out and attack.

Re: Teams that park the bus
Its not about attacking its about defending , I dont know what you call park the bus but for me its not even trying to win , did Wigan parked the bus Ade or Boro they try to play football but they arent match for quality so they dont match the attacking intent and try to nullify the threat more often then not but parking the bus is a bit different in my view.

Re: Teams that park the bus
Ferguson urges referees respect
Alex Ferguson has called for officials to receive more respect.
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson says the lack of respect shown to referees is "ridiculous."
Ferguson also insists he will never allow his players to harangue referees and has called for more respect to be shown to officials.
The Manchester United boss was speaking in light of the Ashley Cole incident on Wednesday when the Chelsea player turned his back on referee Mike Riley.
"The haranguing of referees is ridiculous, we know that," he said.
"We are talking about introducing this into the grass-roots level, respect for the referee. It is absolutely correct."
Cole has been widely condemned for his behaviour towards Riley to whom he refused to acknowledge or even look at as the referee attempted to yellow card him for a late tackle on Tottenham defender Alan Hutton.
Following the tackle Chelsea players Didier Drogba, John Terry and Frank Lampard all surrounded Riley appearing to bully him out of handing out a straight red for the tackle.
But Ferguson's side are no angels when it comes to treating referees with respect.
In 2000 his side were involved in an infamous incident when they chased and surrounded referee Andy D'Urso after he awarded Middlesbrough a debatable penalty.
The behaviour of his players incensed Ferguson, who insists it is not an incident that will be repeated by his side.
"We had a pivotal moment a few years ago when my players surrounded Andy D'Urso," said Ferguson.
"I was off my head with them, I thought it was ridiculous. It never happened again," he said.
"We tell them to shake the hand of the referee after the game, when it is finished.
"It is sometimes difficult but you have to do it, in the same way as when you lose a game and you invite the opposing manager in for a drink after the game.
"I saw the other night one of my players changed his jersey with one of the Bolton players who had committed 10 fouls against him.
"I said that was good because the match was over, all forgotten, we move on with life. I think that's what we have to do."

Re: Teams that park the bus
btw COTR the mancs might be getting those decisions but I don't that's the sole reason they always conquer those teams. They have the right personnel and formation IMO. I mean see how u play Mascherano and Alonso together against these teams, or see how we go to games playing narrow defensive formation(with 2 or more defensive players in midfield) against such teams. The Mancs just go with straight 4-4-2 with 2 winger, 2 CMs, and 2 forwards. They stretch the play, pass the ball at a high tempo and try to get the 1st crucial goal.
