Could also just be that Dutchies have overrated a few players..
Compared to the English ("10 world class players *and* Rooney") we're very modest

Did any English posters say this though? Or is it that the papers said it, we disagreed and now people are saying it was the English posters?

English posters are *incredibly* overhyping the national team, English players, EPL players and the EPL.
No surprise though : everybody is overhyping something.

Given that if Rosicky ever plays again we have comparable talent for the other flank to Nasri already, and given our current weakness in central midfield, in a way it's Tymoschuk of course; but with Cesc, Tomas and Walcott all out for god knows how long, and with our current general decline in midfield compared to a year ago, the likes of the Professor are right to say more creativity is urgently needed too. That fundamental and supposedly characteristic (for Arsenal) department has been poor not to say woeful by our own standards lately.
If de Zeeuw is so damn good and better than Mathieu for instance, why didn't he make the Dutch team at the Euro by the way?
(That said I agree with Guzman versus the Englanders – I'm generally more struck by the Dutchies' relative contempt for de Jong, Babel, obviously Sneijder and various other Dutchies often highly rated elsewhere...)
Think Shaz also had VdV down as the world's best player.

Same reason Ruud didn't make the Dutch team for a while.
Same reason the big buys for Ajax this year were Sno & Oleguer.

I'll give you my judgements (including mistakes) on players recently leaving Holland.borocooper wrote:booooooooooo
I overrated Alves & Gomes. Kuyt made Liverpool's starting line-up & is doing what I expected, being a teamplayer regarded highly by Rafa. On RVP I was spot on (expect far more from him), was about the only Dutchie , who aleways believed in him. Babel unlike others (foreigners) expecting more ended up being a sub. never rated him. Kalou has become a useful player for Chelsea (still think he can do much better in Spain or Italy, think he went to the wrong league). I underrated Robben (still think he's overrated, bloody 1 dimensional, no eye for players around him). Maybe underrated Sneijder, still not convinced about him. Rate VDV higher than him & probably most. Think he's used in the wrong way at Real. Think De Jong only had a few decent periods, but think hes' not as good as City think he's. Think KJH is massively overrated, Makaay always was overrated.
Just name a Dutch player / eredivisie player & you'll see I do not overrate on average. I'll rate some players higher than most & I'll rate far more players lower than most.

De zeeuw like the entire AZ team had a very poor season beforehand. De Zeeuw was gutted he wasn't allowed to leave, etc.Allez les rouges wrote:

Just because Van gaal fucked up last season doesn't make him a poor manager either. De Zeeuw had 1 crap season, but he's back to his usual best again.

The Professor wrote:Arshavin without a doubt.
Anyone who has followed during the course of the season must have seen that we've struggled the most against lesser teams(that park the bus), that's because we lack of creativity(when teams play deep, compact and invite us to break them down) and inability to keep the ball for long. And given the fact more than 80% of teams we face in the league employ that tactics, we should prioritise adding more creativity to the side.
Yes we've struggled defensively this season but that's mostly down to cock ups at the back, no defensive midfielder in the world could solve that - see how poor we were defensively from January top may 2008 despite having 2 good an experienced DM(Flamini, Gilberto) when our defenders started committing similar mistakes as they are doing at present. We could still do with an experienced midfielder though, but that shouldn't be at the top of our list IMO.
Apart from the need of signings, what we need is a stable team. We've looked more like a football team and solid over the past few weeks coz we have virtually been playing the same personnel. Our once porous midfield is now compact as we press and close opponents better than we did at the start of the season, we have been seeing some flashes of good football every now and then, and with confidence returning and the possible addition of a creative player, It won't be that long before we see a free flowing Arsenal team.
that is mostly bullshit.
Team that park the bus generally flood the defensive midfield positions, the areas that Arshavin likes to operate in. Natural width is the only real way to combat this, it's how Mourinho's Chelsea used to grind teams down, with 2 wingers and Drogba. Arsenal have Adebeyour but no real wingers at the moment. Liverpool have Riera but no one on the right or up front. Villa's succes owes so much to Ashley Young, and since Carew has been out of the side they too have struggled to break teams down.
Conclusion, Wenger should sign David Bentley or Andy Reid. Arshavin would probably be about as useful as Robbie Keane in these types of games, although admittedly Adebeyour would be a better foil.

Actually, I dont think any Dutch poster except Rai rated Huntelaar, they are also down on Babel, that he has potential but lack implementation which many would agree.

Arshavin is no Ashley Young, but he's no Robbie Keane either...doesn't play in the DM positions as you say. He does drift there occasionally, but mostly he hugs either flank, favouring the left. He's a faux-winger like Rosicky was.

well I'm going on the latter stages of last year's UEFA Cup and the Euros, where he played mainly as a left sided striker, droping deep and drifing left. I'm sure like a lot of players he'd say his best position was a free role behind someone like Adebeyour, but is he too similar to Nasri, Rosicky, Cesc and RVP? I think given his age and the fact that so much of the player he is is thanks to his pace, Wenger will be reluctant to stump up £20m.
Arsenal need a right winger, a goalkeeper, 2 centre backs and then they can think about Arsharvin or a DM.

Us English posters don't hype the England team too much, unless they're from our club teams/regional area. Also we're more into hyping the league itself - i.e Zidane was the best of his generation, but he'd be the best of all-time without debate had he played in the EPL

I even included him in my world XI for the EPL
