Carlton Cole deserves his call up, he can be a perfect for the 433, which should be given a shot.

I'd still have Heskey before Cole. Not only on ability but because he's more experienced with the England side and he'd have a better understanding with Gabby and Young if they did play.

    Spain squad:
Goalkeepers: Iker Casillas (Real Madrid), Pepe Reina (Liverpool).
Defenders: Raul Albiol (Valencia), Carlos Marchena (Valencia), Alvaro Arbeloa (Liverpool), Joan Capdevila (Villarreal), Juan Gutierrez (Real Betis), Gerard Pique (Barcelona), Carles Puyol (Barcelona), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid).
Midfielders: Xabi Alonso (Liverpool), Albert Riera (Liverpool), Sergi Busquets (Barcelona), Santiago Cazorla (Villarreal), Marcos Senna (Villarreal), Xavi Hernandez (Barcelona), Andres Iniesta (Barcelona), David Silva (Valencia).
Forwards: Daniel Guiza (Fenerbahce), Fernando Llorente (Athletic Bilbao ), Fernando Torres (Liverpool), David Villa (Valencia).

I thought Fabregas' injury might have opened the door for Arteta.

He'll be eligible for England in January 2010.

Disgraceful that Bent's been omitted yet again. Rolling Eyes At least his fellow Tottenham strikers Jermain Defoe and Roman Pavlyuchenko have been left out though.

Yeah I doubt Spain will spank England at all. Allthough Del Bosque has continued improving the team bit by bit Capellos teams tend to be quite cagey. Strange that Capello hasn't called up Young but they still get good crosses from Downing and Becks so I can defo see Heskey giving trouble to Puyol and Agbonlahor. England won't be able to compete with the ball but if they can use the flanks well and get crosses they can definently give Spain trouble so this could be a very good game.

Barry and Carrick are quite intelligent footballers and they have a physical side too as both can be the DMs, neither Alonso and Xavi can be that as both need DMs alongside them, it wont be easy for Spain to dominate the midfield.

Swap Beckham for a younger winger (not SWP) and I reckon England could beat Spain. Barry and Lampard is a match for Xavi and Alonso. Mind you I think Xavi is overrated.

You having a laugh on all fronts there. 1-1 written all over it i reckon. Spain will have a lot more possession especially if lumpard plays. But England are a much better team with a lot more confidence these days, so they will definitely create chances and make a few good moves themselves.

I hope to see Lennon, Agbonlahor and Young all on at the same time at some point in the match.

    Ray is right.

Xavi is overrated. He wasnt Spain's MVP at the Euro's not sure what the judges were watching.

Last year he was piss poor for Farsa aswell.

I'd take Cesc and Xabi Alonso over Xavi.

Golsud said he wanted Baarca to sell Xavi after last season. Any cule with half a brain cell tell you Xavi was shit last season.

He was okay at the Euro's, but Senna, Torres, Iniesta and Villa all were more important to the international team at the Euro's. Yet somehow Xavi wins the awards Erm

Xavi was most certainly the most important player for Spain along with Villa in the Euros.

He was in poor form in 07/08 like the entire Barcelona side but as you can see this year he has been splendid.

If we had a player like Xavi we would play 100 times better.

Yeah we could do with a player that can pass the ball side ways Laughing Wink

He's been in good form this season, but then again all the Barca players have been.

Stil can't believe how Senna's performances at the Euros went unnoticed.

No, we could do with a player that directs the play. We have Lass and Gago that can pass sideways. Xavi only passes sideways when there is nothing available farther up the pitch.

I'd say Iniesta directs the play for Barca more than Xavi, not saying he doesn't. But Iniesta is usually the one running with the ball making those defence splitting passes.

I think Iniesta is a player for the last 1/3. I don't think he's as useful playing deeper and orchestrating the play.

So what does Xavi do exactly? scratch

Yaya Toure breaks down the oppositions play, wins the ball back. Iniesta is the final third player, creating the goal scoring chances.

and that equals directing the play,

i guess it kaka that directs the play for milan and not pirlo

    i thought you knew football.

iniesta/guddy/kieta are the ones that support the strikers, (you know make the late runs, try to find the ST with a splitting ball) xavi is the one that takes the ball of the DMED and dictates the play, when he says fast we go fast, when he says slow we slow down the play, he is the one that very thing goes though.

he was shit at it last year which is why i wanted him to be sold, be he is back to his best this season

iniesta only does this when xavi isn't playing.
