He's an okay poacher, but hardly on their level. Doesn't score enough to justify being that much of a passenger.Tweedle wrote:debaser wrote:He's got a few goals, but if his usual performances are as passenger-esque as he was yesterday, he can't have had too good an effect on them.Kimbo wrote:debaser wrote:Bent Darren? The HuddFather wrote:I can't really explain what's happened to Bentley, but I've never seen a players stock decliine this rapidly or be such a big money flop moving to a club that's in the same country, in the same league as his previous one.

When Inzaghi goes down, he does it elegantly so he wins penalty...if Bent went down that's because he is a big dumb ass hole. That is one simple comparison

Rafa's rant worked then. Though I doubt anyone will give him credit for it, as to do so they'd have to admit that linking a set of results they expected without the rant to the rant was foolish.
Come again?
Before the rant - 8 point lead
Now - 4 point deficit.
Yes, all credit to Rafa.
The rant was aimed at allowing them to affect the one match in the period they couldn't afford to lose, and as it turned out, drop points in. It worked as desired, just as the respect policy did in a crucial game last season, the fact it had no affect in the other games didn't matter.

I don't.
If you've noticed, the Spurs fans don't like him. I support him back from when he played for Charlton - who I had a bit of a soft spot for at the time because I used to go and watch them quite a bit.
Spurs fans tend to prefer players that they can watch and then have a wank over on the way home
Darren Bent simply isn't rpetty enough for them

It's not the matter of him being "not pretty enough". Yes he may score the goals, but he ruins more attacks. It's a team game, he can't hold up the ball and WHEN he gets hold of the ball it takes an eternity for him to release it and release it well.
I don't hate the player and he has scored some vital goals, but he has made us play with less creativity and fucked up alot of our play in the final third. Atleast with Inzhagi he has great awkward movement to complement the midfield, Bent does not...

1. lampard deflected a pass straight to him, decent finish under cech - draw
2. bentley's errand shot hit his legs and went in - defeat
3. was offside vs stoke - defeat
4. a penalty - win which we won by 2 goals anyway
5. a rebound after almunia's mistake - draw
6 & 7. two good goals aginst Man City (his best of the season) - win
8 & 9. two rebounds vs bolton - loss
10. tips in keane's shot that was going in anyway. - win
Technically his 10 goals have won us 8 points this season add in his 2 assists, and you can say that he's won us 12 out of 35 points.
N'gog's goals/assists have already won us 7 points in 5 games.

Re: Weekend Winners and Losers
Pavlyuchenko has only scored 4 goals in the league. 3 of those goals + another assist have also resulted in 12 points.
Defoe won us 4 points from his 4 games, that's a far better ratio than Bent
Gomes has actually only lost us 2 points this season (Villa at home, Fulham away). I would add on Arsenal away, but that's cancelled out by Almunia messing up in the same game.

Re: Weekend Winners and Losers
Liverpool really reaped the benefits on Saturday of Obafemi Martins sowing such fear and such doubt into Nemanja Vidic a few weeks ago. Can it be that Liverpool's great success is really owed to Obafemi Martins? Lou Reed says that we reap just what we sow?
I don't quite understand what the writer of the article is trying to argue with regard to diving. If he's arguing that diving should be punished more severely in general (with red cards, I presume, rather than with £50 million fines) - well, the same sort of case could be made against other sorts of cheating on the football pitch - a player who cynically trips a forward on a breakaway will, presuming he isn't the last man, receive a yellow card at most as punishment, yet his foul may well have prevented a goal.
There is often a fine line between a dive and a player simply 'going down easily' - players who are niggled or obstructed who do not go down don't receive free kicks, so it is often valid for a player to go to ground 'easily' in order to win a free kick that is deserved, but which otherwise might not be given. Diving isn't simply a product of a desire to cheat. It's a product of referees not penalising fouls properly.
I'm not sure how radical a switch to a sort of 4-2-3-1 formation would be for Arsenal. They played a 4-5-1 formation a lot last season and they've played it occasionally this season - they'd just be putting a bit more emphasis on the two wider attacking players, who, in their current 4-4-2 or 4-5-1, tend to be quite attacking anyway.

Bash you're wrong. Vidic's moments of doubt were sown when Pavlyuchenko ghosted past him and beat him to score the most beautiful of glanced headed finishes in the FA Cup match last month.
