    I'm all for Chelsea tonight!

I believe the blues can do the job of a complete assasination of Liverpool.

Hiddink has the experience and knowledge in comparison to that of Benitez....so I shall look forward to a good competitive game.

Can the londoners do it? Can they beat the scousers? Are the blues worthy enough? I hope they are and hope that they show it?

Score pred = 3-1 to the blues.

actually thought it was a really good game tonight. i reckon maybe liverpool think they're actually better than us now so tried to play instead of defending for 90mins. hmm.

am going on tues - if we manage to screw this up, it will probably be the worst experience of my life.

2nd leg @ home in the semi could be significant.

Yeah I'm not getting carried away, I know that Liverpool (and in particular Kuyt) could quite easily ruin my night, but if we do have a semi-final against Barca, I'd love to see Ivanovic play against Henry in preference to Bosingwa. But there's still a 2nd leg to play. Ale

I don't think we played very well. I do think that Chelsea played well.

I wrote this afternoon that I didn't know how Hiddink would set his team out, and suggested how he should. He followed my instructions and I am regretting my post now. Gerrard was in Essien's pocket all game. Lampard was up against Lucas who did not do quite as well.

At 2-1 I wasn't thinking about getting an equaliser, I was thinking I would take 2-1 as a final score. In all honesty the scoreline flattered us. Drogba should have had a hat trick. Kuyt's chance immediately after Chelsea went ahead sums up his Liverpool career. His performance tonight was a great example to the world audience of what he tends to serve up for us in the league week in week out. He is Cristiano Ronaldo sans goals and theatrics.

I didn't see much of the last 30 minutes because I was busy fielding text messages from board members asking why I wasn't online, being bombarded with abuse from mates and crying a little bit. I am going to assume that we were denied 9 stonewall penalties and that Essien was ineligible for this match so it will be deemed void.

I thought the referee had a good game, although I thought Terry's booking was a bit harsh.

    ok

and a thumbs up from me.

You have your moments kas, just need to comment less on the matches that you haven't seen.

Arsenal had a similar problem for a while when teams started putting a man on Henry. It surely doesn't take a genius to work out that if you take Gerrard out of the equation Liverpool have fewer options. Gerrard's performance against Fulham at the weekend was our downfall tonight. I shouldn't have to explain why.

Boswinga being injured was a real blessing in disguise for Chelsea, I'm not sure if he would have started tactically otherwise but he more than nullified Riera and the 2 goals were excellent, his movement for the first in particular was sublime and he really made a mockery of the zonal marking system (of which I am a fan). I prefer him as a centre back, but he perfectly countered Riera's quality's which are must better suited to playing an attacking full back.

It seemed to me that Hiddink had almost mirrored Liverpool's formation, and found more quality in his side. Terry is better than Carragher, Drogba is better than Torres and Essien is better than Lucas. We were beaten by a better side than us and credit to Hiddink for waking Drogba up. I hope whoever wins this tie wins the competition.

Post by Luis Thu Apr 09, 2009 1:40 am

My thoughts on the game tonight:

What can I say really. Firstly, credit where it's due. Chelsea outclassed us tonight, plain and simple. Since our goal they were first to every ball, passed it around better, looked more threatening and took advantage of some really poor defending.

It's strange because as soon as we scored the players seemed to think the match was over which is really unusual for a Liverpool team and even more unusual for a Benitez team. Normally we stay 100% focused throughout the 90 minutes but after Torres scored we were sloppy, we made stupid mistakes, we couldn't find any ryhthm and we never looked like getting another goal.

Hiddink set his Chelsea side up remarkably well. There was no space for Liverpool. We've seen in recent weeks Gerrard and Torres bursting into acres of space and having time to manufacture something special- tonight they didn't have a moment to think. Essien was outstanding and did what Mascherano does for us, stay tight to the danger man, make sure he's not getting any time and space and stay strong. It was a big miss not having Mascherano tonight, say what you like about Lucas, he simply hasn't got the strength nor ability to last 90 minutes in a midfield with Essien and Ballack who absolutely crunched him.

Drogba was like the Drogba of old. He missed a few particularly good chances early on but apart from that he held the ball up very well, he worked hard, he always caused a problem for Skrtel (who I believe had a very poor game by his standards and may be tiring a little bit) and his goal was typical Drogba, very much like the one he scored at the Bridge last year in the semi final, beats his man with strength and determination and gets on the end of a finely placed ball from Malouda.

There's no doubting now the task is improbable, near impossible. If any team is going to go and get a 3-0 away win at one of the toughest grounds in Europe then yes it's Liverpool but to get a 3-0 win without reply against a Chelsea team who IMO will now feel invincible and go on to win this tournament is just surely beyond Liverpool. Even without Terry, Chelsea will have Carvalho back. Liverpool will give it a real go I'm sure about that but that 3rd goal tonight sadly has put us out the champions league which is really shocking for a Benitez team in the first leg.

Credit to Chelsea, really poor from Liverpool, goodnight.

what would you do at the weekend Lewis? It'such at catch 22 situation, if Villa had let us back in at the weekend Benitez could be forgiven for playing his Carling Cup side against Chelsea next week and concentrate on the league, but we don't really have the squad to rotate and despite the tie being over you can't see Benitez giving up on it. I can see us dropping points on Saturday and going out on Tuesday.

About time Liverpool were brought back down to earth. It's what we should have done with Gerrard. He played Anderson knowing he's got the better of him before but that was when he was in a 4-4-2 so he didn't think it through properly.

Anywayz great stuff from Chelsea and really with a few misses previous could have even been fully over not that it isn't no way Liverpool can win by 2 goals at stamford bridge. It shows if you're in a title race europe is a lot more difficult.

Chelsea are the only team capable of winning the cl still left who are not really in a title face so they have a huge advantage in thsi respect.

A Chelsea-Barcelona semifinal looks very likely right now, but that thought scares me to death. 2 main reasons:

    1. If there's any manager who knows our 4-3-3 inside out, it'll be Hiddink - not only is he good tactically, he's Dutch. In fact, he probably knows the system better than Guardiola does!!!

    2. Drogba vs. Marquez pale pale pale
Really need Abidal fit so Puyol can play at CB and at least reduce the threat...it won't eliminate it completely, but will certainly be better than Marquez and Pique trying to defend against Drogba.
