I think this ref is a disgrace in general and while I haven't seen the incident that lead to the freekick you are prob right but with regards to the penalty I think it was spot on. You'd have penalties in every match (for both teams) in the Prem and Serie A. Spanish referees

If you start giving penalties for it, then defenders will inevitably start doing it less. If these fouls are consistently given when strikers do it to defenders, then why shouldn't they consistently be given if it's the other way around?
