I know the whole issue of 'form' will come onto the agenda but put that to one side and rank the teams based on their personnel and their manager. What position would you put each team in, if you were a betting man?

Top ten teams in Europe?
Who do you think are currently the best ten teams in Europe, in ranked order?

Based on just their pretty performances?
They've not won anything for 2 years and last time we played them we beat them. I still think Chelsea will knock them out over two legs as well.

When will united fans learn to READ.
Tweedle asked who are the best teams CURRENTLY.
not who are the best teams based over the last two years.
On recent performances united would be struggling to make the top 10, certainly wouldnt be number 1.

Currently what? Currently what shitty la liga team they beat 3-0 at home? Our reserves would whooped bayern as well! and lyon are on course to not win their first title in 5 years!
Currently smurrently Barca need to beat a team who can defend i don't think they can do it.

Manchester United are number 1 because they are unbeaten? Nevermind the fact that they drew 5 of their last 6 games in Europe.

The team who is on course to win the cl back to back for the first time while dominating domestically and also swooping up some other world trophies is the num 1 imo. but if you disagree that's cool it must be some bias tho

Some bias, but also some eyes. Manchester United won on penalties, all they have won since is an EPL reserves cup and a jumped up friendly against the champions of Ecuador. Hardly criteria to claim yourselves the best in the world.

Re: Top ten teams in Europe?
The top 6 would be the English Big 4, Barcelona, and Inter.
Then it gets a bit interesting and difficult - Villarreal are the furthest in Europe, but I think Sevilla would beat them. I'd also be tempted to put Real Madrid below both these two (the upcoming games between these sides could clarify this).
In Italy the two main candidates for the list would be Juve and Milan. I don't think Fiorentina or Roma or Genoa are strong enough this season to be in a European top 10. Or 15.
Then you have the big boys from the smaller leagues, but again, things are a bit fuzzy here - can we really consider Bayern when they are not the best side in Germany right now? HSV should perhaps be higher than them?
And what of Lyon - perennial European last 16-ers, but currently trailing Marseille in the Ligue 1 title race. A Marseille side who themselves are in European knockout matches too, albeit probably going out to Shakhtar this Thursday.
Speaking of Shakhtar, how would the Eastern European sides factor into this...CSKA and Zenit are pretty good teams, they could easily beat Bayern/Lyon, perhaps even Porto on their day. Should they be in 8th/9th/10th place?
------------------
Having raised all those questions, and given it some thought, I've come up with this comprehensive and definitive list:
1. Barcelona
2. Manchester United
3. Liverpool
4. Chelsea
5. Inter
6. Arsenal
7. Juventus
8. Milan
9. Sevilla
10. Real Madrid
11. Porto
12. Villarreal
13. Bayern Munich
14. Marseille
15. CSKA Moskow
16. Lyon
17. HSV Hamburg
18. Roma
19. Zenit
20. Valencia
21. Shakhtar Donetsk
22. Fiorentina
23. Werder Bremen
24. Atletico
25. Dynamo Kiev
26. Aston Villa
27. Bordeaux
28. Everton
29. AZ Alkmaar
30. Ajax

Yet you'd have no problem claiming Chelsea first? Who have not won anything this season or last and played poorly the first half of the season and have a very slim chance of winning the league.
Nice agenda Glenda.

It doesn't matter how still were joint best team and chelsea wouldn't be num 2 so.... no champions of south america glenn. it is a big criteria once which is a pointless argument just know that you're wrong.

If you are just looking for strength of the team overall, I would go with that - maybe even put Inter 3rd, ahead of Liverpool.... but based on performances in Europe, this will change dramatically... I wouldn't even put Inter in the top ten if I just look at the performances in Europe - we have been shite in europe....

Fenerbache and Celtic might both have a decent shout at a top 30, although I'm not sure...
