What i can't understand is why everyone rates Inter so high (sorry bluenine). They have done shit all in europe. Yes they are quiet good domestically but thats it.

Maybe they wouldn't lose 4-0 or 5-2 in Barca like Bayern or Lyon but they would still go out against them and struggle more against smaller sides...

    preposterous lists, as always

the likes of Inter, Arsenal, Real...

are WAY, WAY, WAY outside the top 10 in Europe

Inter and REal are not even in the top UEFA Cup bracket

if they manage to stay afloat in their own league , it says a lot about their league as well as their inability to cope with INTERNATIONAL football

    which surely

should be a MAJOR consideration for a TOP 10 in EUROPE list

Getting Man Utd in the last 16 was a bit of an unlucky draw though. They could easily have drawn someone else and could be sitting in Porto's position right now.

When you look at their personnel, they're clearly a top class squad.

has a lot to do with SEEDINGS and LUCK of the DRAW

one mistake of the ref and a team does not make the next round

suddenly a Top 8 team becomes a Top 16 team

don't read too much into it

    -----------------

    as for Inter

they are SHITE in Europe but lead their table

ie, they are the Italian Wolfsburg

    NOT MORE

    --------------

Bayern: DESPITE Klinsi's antics, they had THE BEST CL RECORD UNTIL the QF stage

they beat Sporting 12:1 on aggregrate for Godsake

in the Bundesliga they are trailing by merely 3 points and are likely to win it in the end

they should EASILY be in the TOP 5 in Europe

    EASILY

    <Ale>

now imagine where they would be with Hitzfeld in charge

Bayern are nowhere near being considered one of the top five teams in Europe.

Its no surprise that EVERYONE wanted to draw them in the quarter finals.

Bayern need to beat a top European team before they can be taken seriously and I honestly can't remember the last 'top European side' that Bayern beat scratch

Despite Klinsmann, we're actually very good when we have the full first team available. We struggle when key players are out because our bench isn't nearly deep enough. (See first Barca game.)

Not saying we're the best in Europe, but we can compete. Just not without the likes of Lucio, Lahm and Klose.

So what? They beat Sporting end of story. The scoreline is irrelevent bullying a lesser team and getting whooped by another is not impressive to me. Was a good victory of course but it's not a huge win because of the scoreline. They lost 5-1 4-0 and last year 4-0 to zenit as well. Why use beatign sporting twice as some sort of anything?

IMO Bayern are really nothing special or to worry about. They couldn't beat any team in europe like you say, even at home they'd struggle to do that IMO. They have some good players but it just doesn't function correctly from results i have seen.

Bayern arnt a top team, and wont be again until they beat some big teams. Sporting were the weakest team in the last 16.

They might not even make the CL for 2nd time in 3 years. Hardly something to be shouting from the rooftops about.

But at least we we were the best team after group stage in an not so easy group, winning in lyon too. After going on with an impressive win against the weakest remeining opponent (i give you that, it was still a beating) only to go out against probably the best side atm and with one horrendous game and missing the whole defense.

Think that is still a better performance than most non-english teams got this season in europe, and that was the point of this thread (and not that we played poor in uefa cup last season most of the time)

And which nonenglish team knocked out an english one in recent time? So no team outside big 4 is impressive atm? Maybe that still makes most top 10 lists ridiculous here rabbit

We beat Real Madrid when we sucked, i.e. pre-Ribery, when van Bommel(!) was our leader.

Since we had this major squad overhaul only last season, I don't think we should really go farther back to answer your question. This year, the first in the CL with this team, we played Fiorentina, Lyon, Steaua, Sporting and Barca.

We beat all of them but Barca (who we lost to when we were missing absolute key players). That's not bad at all and I won't apologize for drawing Sporting either.

The group was easy. Fiorentina are hardly a top team they are barely the 4th best in Seria A well infact they are not. Steaua are what 8th in their league? and Lyon is the weakest they have been for 5 years. So the away win there was an impressive result but the group was not difficult but true couldn't have done any more asked.

But Barca was the only reason decent team and in Spain it was 4-0 in the first half. In Bayern even a demotivated Barca were not beaten. I just don't see how a team who are struggling in their own domestic league which is not the strongest is one of the top teams in europe, especially when they haven't done shit in europe in a long time.
