World League Rankings Empty World League Rankings

Post by Puro Wed Jul 22, 2009 6:25 pm

This is the IFFHS latest world league rankings:
    1. England 616,0
    2. Brasil 602,0
    3. Argentina 515,0
    4. Deutschland 493,0
    5. España 488,0
    6. Italia 408,0
    7. France 396,0
    8. Chile 328,0
    9. Ukraina 324,0
    10. Paraguay 312,0
    11. Uruguay 301,5
    12. Japan 294,0
    13. Türkiye 292,0
    14. Colombia 291,5
    15. Perú 290,0
    16. Saudi Arabia 288,0
    17. México 287,5
    18. Nederland 280,0
    19. Ecuador 276,0
    20. Portugal 272,0

The MLS is definitely not #55 if Japan is #12. I've watched some J-league matches and the MLS teams would absolutely crush their Japanese counterparts. Shocked to see Holland and Portugal below Saudi Arabia. Don't know much about the Saudi league, but I seriously doubt their IFFHS ranking. Biggrin

My ranking (teams from top to bottom, overall strength of the league and NOT some c**t in the media just judging the top four teams and saying "look just how strong the league is...best in the world blah blah blah" shite sandwich that they serve to us the fans all the fucking time. Biggrin

#1 Spain, #2 Brasil, #3 England, #4 Italia, #5 Germany, #6 México, #7 Argentina, #8 France then it gets muddled with a lot of countries with similar league strengths like Portugal, Holland, Perú, Colombia, Chile, Uruguay, Ecuador, Paraguay, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine.<Ale>

I don't know. Perhaps it's about how much money flows in the league. It's DEFINITELY NOT about the quality and actual on-the-pitch football strength of the teams from top to bottom. They've got Japan and Saudi Arabia ranked higher than a lot of leagues I think are much stronger than these two for example.

The Japanese are skillful, they just don't have the size and PGD of other nations. The US are the opposite.

I agree Kimbo bro! Them Japanese can play, but I don't think their teams are strong. The MLS teams would come on top all the time in my opinion. The MLS teams can go toe to toe with Mexican teams albeit they'd lose but it's close. The Mexican league is strong, there's no one Barcelona or Chelsea or Milan/Inter, but they've got the Lyons, Valencias, Bremens, Fiorentinas, and they have them in bunches.

For example: América, Guadalajara, UNAM, Toluca, Pachuca, Cruz Azul, UANL, Necaxa are decent clubs.

they can only rank the South American leagues among each other, same goes for other contitnents. There's no way to compare.

By the way I'm dead sure the Dutch league is better than the Saudi Arabian one, because I heard countless players talk about it.

Can't judge how we compare to the South-American leagues.

Missed out on Japan, but remeber Shinji Ono saying the Dutch league is stronger & half-decent Dutch players retire overthere.

Don't believe they're better than our league either.

They did 1-0, Pachuca players were demoralized. They were gunning for the Final, but fell short much like France in WC '82 or Holland in '98. They couldn't get up for it mentally for the third place match. <Ale>

J-league is another league that's vastly improving like the MLS, keep an eye on them. <Ale>

No problem COTR! even if it's a lie you just want to hear you're #1. Biggrin

They've got us Perú ahead of México FFS! lol! Peruvian teams #1 to #4 can probably hang with the mexicans, but after that it's no contest. We will lose every remaining tie FFS! lol!

The same story with England and Brasil. The big four from the EPL can hang with the top four from Brasil (they actually have a big 12!) in a home/away ties (would lose in Brasil FOR SURE! just ask Fergie and his Mancs! HAHAHAHA!)...but then Brasil would win the remaining ties just like a Perú vs México series FFS!

IFFHS rankings are based only on results calculations.

They claim to have the most objective and unbiased ranking system - but obviously they pass over the fact that there's an unavoidable bias in setting up a point system and weighing up the competitions.

This for example is the point system for international club competitions, which, together with home results, define the club world rankings:

    UEFA: Champions League: 14 - 7 - 0 points for win - draw - defeat
    UEFA Cup: 12 - 6 - 0
    Copa Libertadores: 14 - 7 - 0
    Copa Sudamericana: 12 - 6 - 0
    CAF: Champions League: 9 - 4.5 - 0
    CAF Cup: 7 - 3.5 - 0
    AFC: Champions League: 9 - 4.5 - 0
    AFC Cup: 7 - 3.5 - 0
    CONCACAF Champions League: 9 - 4.5 - 0
    FIFA Club World Cup: 14 - 7 - 0 (finals: 21 - 10,5 - 0)

The league rankings system, if I understand it correctly, it's just a scam, as it merely sums up the international points of the five best teams of every league.

The classification of the best leagues of the world is made objectively without any outside influence of any sort. We follow the criteria that the level of performance of a league is reflected by the best classified teams of that league who in turn usually represent their country in international club competitions. If one looks at the football power-houses of the world, one notices that regularly 4 or 5 clubs of their leagues are always competing in continental competitions. By adding the points won in all competitions by the five best placed clubs of each league, we have the points for the country which in turn helps to establish a fair classification. It is important to note that only the yearly classification is representative, since all competitions move along the whole season and over twelve months, we have an objective view of the best. This system has been used since 1991, and it is recognized today as the most precise in rating the leagues of the world.

So basically it doesn't and can't fairly judge inter-continentally. Portugal have a worse rating because they have to play the best of Europe. Saudi Arabia has to play the best of Asia. What a waste of time it is then.

Citeh's a freak team with all that Dubai money now. Hughes has been given a space shuttle to fly, and he can only drive a car. Good luck to him or he'll be the first to go. Biggrin
