Lucio underrated?!
Thats a joke right?
He's regarded by most as one of the best defenders on the planet
he is regraded at one of the top 3/5, instead he with the like of Rio,terry ext when they aren't good enough to shine his shoes
The guy does have bad games you know - just cos you don't get to watch him week in week out doesn't mean the guy is a living God.
IMO he is better than Rio and Terry at attacking but no better than them defensively, and at the end of the day this is wht defenders are judged on it it not?
And even aCaneira
attackingwwise he doesn't add that much, Terry scores mre goals per season than Lucio does.
There isn't a difference between him and Rio IMO.
I would say Woodgate>Rio and Lucio>Terry
thats your opinion all be it a wrong one.
What is a defenders job Messiah?

he is better than them Both attacking wise and defensively.
So because he's a World Cup winner means that he's beyond criticism?Forza Italia!Forza Milan! wrote:TeamSpirit wrote:Sorry got to step in and defend Rio here...
Like Parky said, 2 awesome World Cups, and he generally has Thierry "Best Player in the World" Henry's number.
The way Man Utd fell apart after he got banned in 2003-04 says a lot about just how good he is.
Rio > Cannavaro. Cannavaro looked twice as bad against Lyon this evening.
And, yes I was defending Puyol after his N.Ireland "performance" - and Rio was nowhere near as bad as that.
Honestly, I would like you not to insult a World Champion like that. It's poor form.

But Cannavaro had a far worse nightmare. Would you remove Cannavaro from the list of WC defenders.
I do agree with your point on Wes Brown. But Rio is a extremely capable defender. The only issue with his game is his consistency.
Last season against us at OT he was awesome. One week later he was making Cygan look like a decent defender.
For Cannavaro a new age is coming up! He needs to show that he is a real top class defender because he needs to show he can also play in a team that doesn't play catenaccio
Real Madrid don't play defensive!
Stam aside, that's a poor attempt at humour.ricardojol wrote:But, still Mathijsen, Stam, Boulahrouz and Ooijer are all 1000x better than Rio!
Ooijer made a bad start at Blackburn but his for last year was superb and was better than Boulah, Stam and Mathijsen!
Defensively Wes>>>>>Heitinga but my grand mother is also better than Heitinga defensively!

ricardojol wrote:Vd Sar indeed wasn't sharp enough! But the thing is, English always blame him for the defensive mistakes while his very poor defence is seen as World Class!
I want to get rid of this hypocrit thinking....
Rio is of course not the worst defender in the world but he is average at best, especially for a team as Man U or the England team! He makes too often mistakes defensively to be called a World Class defender!
I also know, it is much more difficult for Rio and Co to play in a squad that is more attacking than in a defensive team like Italy and Chelsea! Cannavaro had an outstanding World Cup but this had more to do with the defensive tactics of Lippi than with the skills of Cannavaro!
I think Rio fits perhaps better in a team that doesn't play very attacking like Man U but in a team where he can play with 4 men on a line, enough back up and where he is only there to stop the the forwards!!
Man U need defenders who can man mark and can defend forward! In england there are NO defenders who can man mark or defence more forwardly because English teams always play zone defence and with 4 men in the back. I hardly see a defender that can move to the midfield to support the midfield offensively and defencively. The problem with zone defence and to play with 4 defender on a line in an attacking team is, you leave too much space between the lines so defenders always come too much under pressure!
Man U have simply the wrong defenders! That's all what I want to say!

I'm sure Rio, King Brown and Woodgate can do that - but only with Carrick & Hargreaves there. The others seem to have no Idea how to give the defence passing option, with the exception of Joe Cole.

30 yarders scored by King this season?

Yes i do believe all the above mentioned can do that but the problem is they are not taught to do so, so they all just play the way typical English defenders do
