Carling Cup Round One Empty Carling Cup Round One

    Post by Rasiak-9 Tue Aug 11, 2009 4:13 pm

Ah the magic of the cup, Half empty stadia, second string teams, apathy, indifference and a series of glorified friendlies eventually won by a team that probably didn't manage to win anything else significant...

...and then theres the Carling Cup, which gets up and running proper tonight

(I personally have a fiver on Watford, QPR and Ipswich to win which will see me get a return of £45 - sounds good to me Smile)

Anyway, now and again theres a lower league team which does a Wycombe/Burnley and goes on a great little run, upsetting several bigger clubs along the way and raking in a fair few bob in prize money. Lets see who it is this year.

Swindon and Norwich beaten by 5 and 6 goals at the weekend go on to beat League 1 opposition by 3 and 4 goals respectively - crazy.

I went to Shrews-Ipswich. Great game, some real good goals (Hibbert scored a beaut of a lobbed volley for us). Unfortunate to lose on pens..

Was Connor Wickham any good ? - I know he scored a couple obviously.

In honesty, I wasn't watching out for him too much..didn't know who he was (or that he was only 16) till after, and was busy trying to work out who all the new Shrews players were - 1st match I've caught this season, and only about 5 remained from last season!

Looked lively around the box, and got some physique for a 16 yr old (rather Rooney-like in that he looks full grown already).

I'd be a pretty useless scout Smile
