La Segunda 2009/10 Empty La Segunda 2009/10

Post by Jaime Fri Sep 04, 2009 2:23 pm

We shouldn't forget about la Segunda like we did last season. Here is the table after one round of play:

    1 Betis 3
    2 Rayo 3
    3 Huesca 3
    4 Numancia 3
    5 Cartagena 3
    6 Gimnástic 3
    7 Recreativo 3
    8 Salamanca 3
    9 Levante 1
    10 Villarreal B 1
    11 Las Palmas 1
    12 R. Sociedad 1
    13 Castellón 1
    14 Hércules 1
    15 Celta 0
    16 Cádiz 0
    17 Girona 0
    18 Murcia 0
    19 Real Unión 0
    20 Elche 0
    21 Albacete 0
    22 Córdoba 0

Aside from Betis probably being favourites to return to the top flight the other promotion spots are largely up for grabs. Will be interesting to see how the seasons evolves.

Thanks for keeping the thread alive. Very Happy

Albacete made some quality last minute signings just before the end of the transfer window - Salva, Hidalgo, Vivar Dorado, Sousa, Notario - and their manager is pretty good, a bit too direct for my liking though.

Cartagena are the surprise team in the league but they too have made some Segunda level signings in De Lucas, Víctor, Toché, Cygan, Unai Esposito.

    re Oubiña
I honestly think his career is over - the DoF signed López Garai as his replacement. He had an operation on his knee last season, but kept on havin niggling problems. The club doctor recommended that he have the operation again and start his recovery from scratch.

It's really a shame, before he went to Birmingham I thought he had a chance to eventually get into the Spain team. Would be shocked if he plays at a high level again.

An interesting place to visit if you get a chance and are interested in history. It was founded by Hasdrubal the brother-in-law of Hannibal Barca. It was a very important defensive base in the second Punic War and its capture by Publius Cornelius Scipio was essential to the Roman victory. It also hs the ruins of a cathedral built by one of Spain's great monarch's Alfonso X el Sabio. It fared badly in the Civil War, but is a great place to visit especially in mid-September when there is a pageant re-enacting the Punic War skirmishes there.

That's despite being in a piss-easy group. The RFEF conveniently put you in the same group as the Asturianos and Extremeños.

Yes. But if they at all interested they could also take a look at the Levante-Athletic game.

Or any number of Real Sociedad-Athletic, Athletic-Osasuna, or Real Sociedad-Osasuna matches towards the end of the seasons when one or more were in danger of relegation. Biggrin

Table after 8 rounds with newcomers Cartagena on top! Surprised to see Castellon at the bottom after they had a pretty good run last year. Rayo and Real Sociedad occupying the other two promotion places at the moment although it's all pretty tight in 1 through 10.

    1 Cartagena 16
    2 Rayo 15
    3 R. Sociedad 15
    4 Hércules 15
    5 Numancia 14
    6 Levante 13
    7 Betis 12
    8 Recreativo 12
    9 Salamanca 12
    10 Córdoba 12
    11 Gimnástic 11
    12 Cádiz 9
    13 Las Palmas 9
    14 Albacete 9
    15 Villarreal B 9
    16 Real Unión 8
    17 Elche 8
    18 Murcia 7
    19 Celta 7
    20 Huesca 7
    21 Girona 7
    22 Castellón 4
