It's simply a misunderstanding. Schweini is no #10, and he is no winger either. He is a #8 who is not just 'serving' btw., but actually capable of pulling the strings in the midfield, as he has proven numerous times.

While he had a number of good matches for Germany, the national team has yet to get the best of him. He is now showing his full potential for his club, but it took a long while for him to get where he is now. Ironically, it was the Bayern fans themselves who were his fiercest critics. His image abroad was always much better than in Germany, especially Bavaria. Hoeness showed a lot of patience with him.

De werkelijke Duitse doelman is een potsierlijke provocateur, die consequent net over het randje van het sociaal al lang niet meer geaccepteerde gaat. De Duitse doelman heeft een intrinsieke motivatie zoveel mogelijk antipathie op te wekken. Dat is altijd zo geweest.

Praten kan een Duitse doelman niet. Nooit gekund ook trouwens. Alles wordt geschreeuwd. Liefst met een paar flinke klodders speeksel. Een Duitse keeper hoort zich in beginsel niet druk te maken over het tegenhouden van ballen. Dat hoeft alleen in uiterste gevallen. Als er dan toch gedoken dient te worden, is het absoluut noodzakelijk voor de Duitse doelman om minimaal drie á vier meter door te rollen.

Een beetje Duitse doelman heeft niets te vrezen van een hoekschop. Hij dient een dusdanige reputatie te hebben dat zowel teamgenoten als tegenstanders liever niet in het vijfmetergebied komen. Mocht er toch iemand zijn die zich onverhoopt niet aan deze ongeschreven regel wenst te houden, dan wordt deze vakkundig onderuit gekegeld. Een goede Duitse doelman zorgt natuurlijk wel dat betreffende tegenstander in dit geval minimaal een gele kaart oploopt. Ook hier komt een stukje getraind doorrollen goed van pas.

Een banaan kan een Duitse doelman eenvoudig dwars opeten. Twee ook. Niets of niemand wordt ontzien. Als het moet, bijt de ware Duitse doelman de spits in zijn standbeen om hem het scoren te beletten. Alles voor de zege, en als het even kan met de noppen vooruit. Deutschland über alles.

Na een doelpunt van zijn eigen ploeg sprint de Duitse doelman het liefst maniakaal naar de bank van de tegenstander om desbetreffende coach duidelijk te maken hoe blij hij is met deze treffer. De gele kaart die de Duitse doelman hiervoor incasseert betekent een teleurstelling. Nu kan hij minder tijd rekken. En dat is jammer, want tijdrekken is zo lekker provocerend.

Ik mis ze. Typisch Duitse keepers. Maier, Schumacher, Lehmann en Kahn. Jarenlang hadden de Duitsers een dergelijke kwibus onder de lat staan. Het hemeltergende gedrag van deze bijkans psychopathische dorpsgekken heeft de Mannschaft zelden windeieren gelegd. Drie wereldtitels en evenzoveel Europese. Chapeau.

Nu het wereldkampioenschap nadert is het hoog tijd voor een nieuwe. Een echte Duitse doelman. Een beer van een vent. Wie pakt de handschoen op?
