England goalkeeper Ben Foster is "disheartened" by his Manchester United status - but has no plans to leave.
At the start of the season he stood in for Edwin van der Sar, but a series of errors means he is third-choice behind the Dutchman and Tomasz Kuszczak.
"I'm third choice for United yet I'm playing for my country," said Foster after England's 1-0 defeat by Brazil.
"It's very disheartening not even to be on the bench, but I can't go saying 'I want to leave' or anything like that."
With Van der Sar absent through injury in the early months of the season, Foster was handed the gloves by United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, only to make embarrassing mistakes in the derby win over Manchester City and the 2-2 draw with Sunderland.
"I thought I started off well but then there was a period of two or three games where I made a few mistakes," added Foster.
"But they were the only ones I made really and I was disappointed to find myself out of the team."
But while his club form dimmed, Foster's international prospects brightened due to Robert Green's suspension following his dismissal against the Ukraine, allowing the United keeper to play against Belarus and Brazil.
"It is everything for a footballer to go to the World Cup but I can't go saying 'I want to leave' or anything like that," said Foster, reflecting on his chances of going to the World Cup in South Africa if he is not playing in the United first-team.
"I have just got to see what happens."
Fabio Capello is expected to take three keepers to South Africa, with David James, Green and Foster the Italian's preferred stoppers.

Both of those keepers are better than he is. However he is the best English keeper. Not rocket science.

It'll be a shambles if Foster stays England 1st choice while not playing any club football. I trust him about as much as I'd trust Carson or Robinson.
Surely he will go out loan somewhere in Jan if he's still 3rd choice.

Surely Joe Hart should be given more opportunities. And I'd pick Green ahead of Foster too. He should be 4th choice for England - even if James isn't fit to start every game for England, he'll clearly be making the SA plane just for his experience and dressing room influence. Foster seems incapable of proving himself on the big stage.

To be honest, while I wanted Hart to start getting some games (as he is Shrewsbury's finest export since Darwin!) - he is only 22, and GK is about experience more than any other position.
In a way I'd rather he waits a few yrs till he's got a few seasons of PL football experience - otherwise there's the danger same thing will happen as with Carson.
Problem with Foster - he's 4 years older than Hart, but probably played less league games.
It should be James + Green as 1 and 2 for England.

Joe Hart is 4 years younger than Ben Foster but he has more PL experience. He also has more European experience, although Foster has played in the Champions League while Hart played in UEFA Cup.
It is too late for Hart to get ahead of Foster now though I think, unless Capello decides that conceding a penalty and a header from 25 yards was bad enough a performance to drop him.

This is a manager who picks Theo Walcott. He likes big club players, Foster will be in the WC squad.

Even being at a big club can't rescue Michael Owen.
