The biggest tragedy about England not qualifying for 1994 was that the Carlton Palmer was not given the oportunity to play on the global stage.

In a World Cup which featured the likes of Stoichkov, Baggio, Haghi, Klinsmann, Larsson, Romario, Bebeto, Bergkamp and Phil Babb,

there was one man missing who wouldn't have looked out of place.

What happened to Portugal's golden generation in 94 and 98? these players only managed to play in a world cup in 02 when they were on their last legs.

Argentina 1950 & 54 could ve gone all the way... that was a great generation of players who never played the world cup. Argies dominated the copa america with 3 consecuitive titles before & after the period of exile.

This was considered the golden period of Argentinian football. At the time of the 58 world cup Di Stefano, I believe was playing for Spain.

For this WC, I would say it's between Russia (although overrated)/Turkey/Bosnia/Ecuador, and what's happened to Nigeria?

Rodríguez is a stalwart for Portuguese leaders Braga, Acasiete is a solid defender playing for a bad team in La Liga (he's a South American champion with Cienciano defeating River Plate in the Final), Guisazola is way better than Glenn Johnson, but he gets no media exposure, and Quina is "the promise", "the future".

I think Chile are all set, ready to go without David Pizarro. Bielsa likes an up-tempo game, and David would slow down the game, and he can't pressure the opponents in their own half, something that Bielsa preaches. In the end, who knows really, there may be key injuries, and Bielsa may call him, but I just don't see the Argie calling David Pizarro because he doesn't fit in the plan.

Whatever happened to that Peruvian kid, Vazquez? I think he played or some Nordic team.

What happenend to the striker? 16 or something was good in a youth tournament. Mano? or or something short and easy to remember..though i forgot it.

Ah yes, Andrés Vásquez went to FC Zurich, but word has it Stoke City (of all teams) want him. Apparently they want someone with technique for their midfield.

Manco, he went to PSV. They gave him steroids to bulk up (just like they did to Ronaldo) and is now injured. Slowly recovering. He should be back shortly. I guess Fat Boy or Fey or Ricardo may have more info regarding the injury and his return.

I think Vidal, Medel, Matías Férnandez and Beausejour (good player!).

Mati gets the free role, assisting the forwards. Chile are set to go. Watch out for them.

I think they play a 3-4-3 with Alexis Sánchez, Suazo & Orellana up front.

Exactly allthough he has allowed for some flexibility compared to earlier. Chile look a bit like Russia at times in their collective play. They share the same danger of not beeing good enough at crossing and finishing off chances.

That is the one but when I have seen them they have used Mati and Sanchez behind Suazo. Tim Vickery describes it as a 3-3-1-3 but that is going into details really.
