World Player of the Year Shorlist Announced

The final five for the FIFA world player of the year award has been announced. The players are Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Cristiano Ronaldo and, inexplicably, Kaka. The winner will be announced and the award presented on 21st December.

Why Kaka

Were Milan even in the CL last season? If they were I barely noticed them.

That's the thing I've noticed about Kaka - he always seems to be very highly rated by his fellow players...this award is voted for by int'l team captains and coaches. Obviously there's always a fair bit of laziness in these awards, where voters don't really care and just go with the hyped up options. But even in interviews after games, you'll notice players talking about how Kaka was one of the best players on the other team. He must be doing something right.

A by product of that makes these selections more based on talent than potential... players like Kaka and earlier Zidane could ve poor seasons (by their standards) but still finish in the top few. They are gifted, and thats what pulls the votes from fellow professionals/coaches.
