Just wondering about people voting for C Ronaldo.. He had an early CL exit, no UEFA cup football, not domestic champion.. So what has he done to deserve to be called the best in the world??

Break it down in 3 sections. I cannot see anybody who has done better than him. Champions league exit is kind of irrevelent since it is calender year.

Let's compare him with Etoo. Etoo had a better end to the season, but ronaldo also had a very good second half. World cup Ronaldo of course much better as Etoo wasn't there. So far this season Ronaldo been great, Etoo was good then injured.

@ oleguer - Lrd is right - if you look at calender year then effectively their elimination from the CL is elementary

I genuinely voted for Eto'o, however:

After a poor 2005 with family problems and personal problems he completely turned around his form around the turn of 2006 and been consistently brilliant since.

Champions league is not considered because that was in 2005.

League since the turn of the year we have accumalated more points in total than Chelsea and he has been a major part in that assisting and scoring around 15 - 20 goals.

In the World cup he was excellent, one of the best performers and the best player on the pitch vs England and France.

He is not a contender in the real thing, and probably not appearing in the champions league in the business end, is a big reason.

I have been very critical of Drogba in the past but this guy has been fantastic in my opinion. Eto'o wasn't at the World Cup and he's been injured for the majority of the current season. Eto'o was very good from January-May but since then he hasn't really done enough. I would have given it to Eto'o last year (calendar year 2005) but for 2006 I think it has to be Drogba.

actually it is about playing well in both tournaments, not scoring in the finals. Dinho was better in the league and henry while not fantastic played pretty well (still top scorer in EPL I think), and henry scored some important goals to get his team to the finals in both CL and world cup. Dinho was pretty good in the CL, but did not perform at all in the World Cup. If eto'o had gone to the world cup and performed well, and taken cameroon quite far I would say him, but he has also been injured for a bit this season so it's tricky ...

At the top it is very close, henry, eto'o dinho, buffon etc, but cannavaro, zidane etc should not be considered for their performances over the year.

you're right. it seems people are more worried about hyping their clubs up, as I expected.

those same people would have chosen lampard last year. I remember how it was on 606. almost everyone saying lampard was better than dinho.
