Jumped in with both feet off the ground, studs up, straight into Givens chest.

Sounds nasty, but i'll have to wait to see it on MOTD2 before I comment.
Still, hope Shay's alright. He's long since deserved to win trophies (i.e. be at a different club).

Alot like Le Tissier in that respect.

Re: Shay Given rushed to Hospital
The difference being that Le Tiss probably never expected to win trophies with Southampton. We never held the world record transfer fee. We never had 'King Kev' talking it up...

So the difference is, Shay Given has devoted his career to winning a trophy at Newcastle(possibly/probably failing), and Le Tissier devoted his career to.... what?

Keeping a small south coast club, who don't think they're better than they are, amongst the elite of English football?

Becoming a cult hero. Being practically irreplaceable in the hearts and minds of Saints fans of my age and a bit older. Securing himself massive credibility for not leaving for a bigger club when he could have done.
Now he seems to be devoting his career to dreadful punditry.
In fact, the parallels between him and Shearer just keep piling up...

That too. As opposed to Shearer, who kept a reasonably large north eastern club who do think that they are better than they are amongst the elite of English football.

Err... in case you haven't realised that's exactly what Given has done, he is a GENUINE legend/hero at Newcastle. We would've been relegated during the Souness years without him.

Re: Shay Given rushed to Hospital
Do you think that Shay Given will spring to the minds of fans in 30 years as easily as Le Tiss? He's not as talented, not as ugly, and played for more of a cult team (hence enhanching his cult status considerably). He also scored that ridiculous goal where he volleyed a direct free kick. Given's never done anything as memorable as that.

In the minds of Newcastle fans yes, he's the best keeper we've ever had. And he has had memorable saves like this one... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SV_Q_itonZs
But ofcourse saves aren't as memorable as goals, nobody will be able to recall many(if any) saves from Yashin but he's still considered the best keeper ever... BUT people will be able to recall goals from Le Tis. Which of those two is the most talented? Hmm.

I agree, the descriptions I heard made it sound much worse. It was a heavy challenge but it certainly wasn't anything like Thatcher's challenge which some people compared it with.

Yep, people have overreated(probably because of the hostilities).
Not intentional but i wouldn't mind knowing why both feet were off the ground.

It looked 50/50, feet were on the ground, it was his knees that clattered into his chest.

The ball went to Given and he went to ground. Not intentionally bad, just a bad way of slowing down, using Given as a crash mat.

So basically you were having a go at Harewood without having seen the incident.
Didn't you have a go at me for doing the same with Parker just last week?

I was wrong to do that. A supposedly reliable source(someone i know) described the incident, looks like they got carried away.

Just this.

It says "acute abdominal pain", which i think means it isn't his ribs.
