Just take a look at the English squad, which looks like one of the oldest in the tournament, actually the oldest English WC squad ever if I'm not mistaken (think I read that somewhere).

You say we hype Marin, Özil, Kroos and co., but those kids are actually playing for the senior team already, they have MADE IT. More than a handful of last year's U21 European Champions are in the German WC squad, quite a few of them are starters.

This isn't about bragging rights and who has the better youngsters - it's just a pointed reminder that these "English hype" accusations and threats to leave the board if England win the World Cup are rather tiresome. If I were paid a dime every time I heard the phrase "English hype", particularly from the German contingent on here, I'd be richer than the Queen.

So I ask all of those accusers - where is the hype here? Comparably less than the hype that greeted Germany's victory last year!

Which German victory? I hardly remember anyone 'hyping' the U17 title or those very young players. A bit of teasing of the Dutch maybe, since the final was against them, but that really was about it.

The U21 title was something else because Germany were playing England in the final, as you may remember, and because those players were actually men who played for 1st Bundesliga or EPL clubs already. The way the whooped their arse was quite impressive, who can blame us for rubbing it in a little. You anti-German fuckers deserved it!

    Youthful energy ?

Glen Johnson, Rooney, Lennon, Milner for the first team. They have all made it also.

Only Milner was in the U21 side last year that made it to the final. And it's far from certain that he will start for England. Thanks for proving my point.

You could just as easily suggest that the squad is a reflection of the manager, and to turn to the clichéd view of Italian managers they prefer experience and 'know-how' in these situations rather than youth. I don't doubt that there is a paucity of players pushing through below the established set who are 28+. Another manager could easily have picked reserves like Walcott and Huddlestone and the average age would come down a fair bit. Obviously different managers see 'a good mix' as being at different levels.

Was your point that England had youthful energy?
