45-50m a minimum. If they sell him for cheaper they're idiots. Cesh is young and very talented, he scoer and assist over +10 and will be a future key player for Spain. Don't sell him cheap or don't sell him.

Are we totaling up all big money purchases or just failures? Because from the list above Alves, Keita, Abidal are 100% successes. Henry and Milito are 50-50. Villa is unknown atm.

And most of your your numbers are predictably inflated a little...not sure where you got these from. Correct numbers AFAIK:

Dani Alves - 40m (apparently there were some huge win bonuses and since we won everything, Sevilla earned some serious $$$)
    David Villa - 40m
    Thierry Henry - 24m
    Seydou Keita - 14m
    Gabriel Milito - 18m
    Dimitro Chygrynskiy - 22m
    Eric Abidal - 15m
    Keirrison - 14m
    Zlatan Ibrahimovic - 45m + Eto’o
Martin Caceres - 16m...but some reports say the initial fee was 11m and the rest were add-ons which never got activated...which is why we initially agreed with Juve to sell him for 10m to them
    Aleksandar Hleb - 15m
    Henrique 8m

    So a generous total of the "failed" signings as of now = 22m + 14m + 65m + 16m + 15m + 8m = approx. 145m or thereabouts. And Chygrinksiy or Ibra could still redeem themselves. Caceres/Hleb/Henrique/Keirrison are writeoffs.

kas - all of the players that you signed before the 08-09 season had heavy add ons based on winnings, and that was true not just for Alves but also Caceres, Keita and Hleb. The only one who didn't qualify was maybe Henrique (I think he was 8+2) since he was on loan that first season. But once you won the triplete all of those bonuses were activated. Hence the 'inflated' prices.

And every source I have seen lists Chygrynskiy at 25m. Even SPORT.

You could be right about Caceres...I included him as a 16m signing in the 145m anyway.

Not sure about Hleb, I don't recall reading anything about add-ons at the time he was signed.

I find it hard to believe when people say that Ibra is a flop at Barca... he has had a difficult first season, sure, but surely calling him a flop is a bit over the top... he scored 20 goals last season at a frequency of a goal every 2 games - even if he did nothing else, thats not a "flop" stat.

Barca payed over the odds for Ibra, thats not his fault.

Eto'o on the other hand scored 16 goals for us in all competitions, at the frequency of a goal every 3 games... and IMO he is a great success, considering this is his first season in Serie A! Let's talk about Cesc baby...all summer long - Page 2 F_ok

Ibra hasn't been bad but he flopped in the two games where people were (for some unknown reason) expecting him to give Barcelona a whole new dimension by himself. That and he hardly looks bothered.

Thats always been him, he probably isn't bothered... Its strange how Ibra was no critical for us, a winner for 3 years, and yet most fans do not ve the expected emotional attachment to him... its like we always knew he was a mercenary, and that he will turn against us when it suits him. We all supported him when he played for us, but now we couldn't care a fuck for him... unlike other ex-stars like Vieri, Zamarano, Pagluica, etc who are still loved...

IMO Barca are not playin Ibra where he can be most dangerous - just behind a centre-forward.... Ibra ideally suits a 4-4-1-1 formation as the withdrawn striker. If you have to play him in a 4-3-3, put him in pedro/henry's place, with a license to roam free. Jus coz he is tall does not mean he should be centre forward!!

But this is exactly why he's been a flop - ok he's scored some goals (though not many of great importance) but he's not played well. And sometimes being a flop isn't completely the players fault. Why the hell Pep thought he was going to come and replace Eto'o who is a true '9' never made any sense and has provoked yet another big money purchase this summer (Villa) to correct the problem.

That's how I felt about Ibra when he was at Ajax. Wonderful talent, did a amazing job and could realize that he would have a solid career. But he possesses a natural arrogance that makes him not very likeable as a person so there is always going to be some respect for his achievements with all the clubs, but yeah Ibra doesn't form attachments obviously and neither do fans to him. Smile

Ibra did what he could, but it was pointless bringing him on in the first place. His style doesn't work for Barca, and that was a lot of money wasted on someone that cannot excel in that position.

Getting back on topic...apparently Cesc would be eligible to use FIFA Article 17 which says that if you've spent 3 or more years at club, you can buy out what's left of your contract.

So that's basically where the 35m figure is coming from - the cost of buying out his contract.

I doubt he'll use it though. AFAIK no player has used it yet, and Cesc - if he really does love Arsenal and respect Wenger as much as he says - wouldn't want to leave in controversial circumstances.

Thursday, 19 October 2006 - Arsenal announce Fabregas has signed a new 8 year contract.

    -----------

This suggests he has only four years on his contract, and has passed the 3 year mark that would allow him to buy it out. However, he may have signed another contract subsequent to this, I found it a bit tricky to work out what's happened since.

Hm it's a bit surprising that Arsenal came down on this as strongly as they have. The policy has been that, if the player wants to leave, let him go. It may be because it's Barca again and we're (quite rightly) pissed off with the way they've gone about it this time. It may also be that they think they think Cesc isn't a completely lost cause, and can be persuaded to change his mind. However, though we may hang onto him for another season, long term he's a goner.
