This one will rumble on, so we may as well keep all discussions here instead of splitting them up in the Arsenal/Barça threads.

Today Cesc gave a press conference at Spain's World Cup training camp.

    http://sport.es/default.asp?idpublicacio_PK=44&idioma=CAS&idnoticia_PK=716934&idseccio_PK=803

He basically says he doesn't want to talk about his future and is focused on the World Cup. Quick translation of the rest of the quotes in that article:

I had a long conversation with Wenger, it was probably one of the best conversations I've had with anyone in my life. As I respect him a lot, I don't want to talk about it. I feel a deep respect for Arsenal the club and its fans.

Wenger told me to concentrate on the World Cup and my football. And leave the negotiations in his hands. That's what I'm doing, concentrating on my football. I don't want to say anything more, I am mentally ready for the World Cup. The rest is all the future, and I'm not interested in the future.

Sounds like he wants out. Now it just depends on whether Arsenal will keep him against his wishes, or agree to sell him but at a relatively low fee (from their perspective) of 30-35m euros.

They are not going to sell him for 30-35m. If Barcelona come with 50m euro I think Arsenal will sell and I suspect Laporta will, sooner than later, make that bid. It would drive him absolutely crazy to think about Rosell being the one to finalise the deal in a year (remember Calderon and how he kept going on about Ronaldo being 'his' signing?).

If we let him go for £30m-£35m Wenger and the board would have hell to pay. He has five years left to run on his contract and judging by these comments and his personality in general I doubt he is going to have one massive sulk if a deal doesn't materialize, he has to much respect for the club for histrionics. I suspect Wenger made it perfectly clear to Fabregas what the minimum price would be for any transfer to happen. If Barcelona wanted him that bad they wouldn't have spent all that money on David Villa to begin with.

Money spent on Villa are not a problem here. Barca probably has (or can find) money to meet Arsenal's valuation, IMHO it's more of matter of principles - to not paid crazy (and for me 30m is already crazy) money for "our" player...

£30m isn't going to happen. I wouldn't be surprised if we were to settle for a deal of about £40m though, possibly with a player swap as well. It looks as though Touré is unlikely to maybe Milito or Chyrnginsky

Hleb advises Cesc not to sign for Barcelona lol!

    Hleb cheers

Club makes formal offer for Cesc

Club Director General Joan Oliver has confirmed that Barca have made a formal written offer to Arsenal for Cesc Fabregas.

During the presentation of the club’s new sponsorship deal with Herbalife, Joan Oliver revealed more details of the negotiations with the London club to sign Cesc.

    Formal transfer period opens

Sr Oliver explained: “everybody knows that Cesc wants to sign for Barca and that we also want him to come here, but there is also a third party involved –Arsenal. Any agreement has to be with them. The official window for transfer negotiations opened on June 1st and although we’d had unofficial conversations with them before yesterday, we’ve now made a formal written offer, which we presented to Arsenal yesterday afternoon”.

    Yuste is optimistic

Club Vice-President Rafael Yuste also spoke of Cesc’s possible signing and claimed: “I’m optimistic that he’ll be able to sign for Barca as soon as possible and it’s clear that everybody here will give him a warm welcome. We’ll do nothing that might make it more difficult for him to come here and we won’t rush things – but we won’t stop either!”

Yuste gave no more details, explaining that Txiki Beguiristain and Raül Sanllehí were leading the negotiations.

Arsenal turn down Barca offer for Fabregas

Arsenal Football Club have today released the following statement about captain Cesc Fabregas:

"Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas is under contract with the Club until the summer of 2015. He is a highly valued member of the team and part of our future plans.

"We have followed recent speculation linking Cesc with a move away from the Club but as there has never been any official approach for him, only two informal exchanges, in which we made it abundantly clear that we have no interest in transferring Cesc, we have refrained from publicly passing comment. However, yesterday evening we received an offer from Barcelona for Cesc and in response, we immediately and resolutely told them once again that we have no intention of selling our captain.

"To be clear, we will not make any kind of counterproposal or enter into any discussion. Barcelona have publicly stated that they will respect our position and we expect that they will keep their word."

    Xavi confident of Fabregas deal

Barcelona midfielder Xavi says Cesc Fabregas is certain to leave Arsenal for Camp Nou this summer.

Fabregas has long been linked with a return to his former club but, although Barca have previously expressed interest, it appeared the midfielder was happy to stay at Emirates Stadium for the time being.

However, he has recently indicated that he wants to make the move this summer and Spain team-mate Xavi, who has previously said Fabregas has "Barca DNA", now believes the deal is set to go through.

Asked if he expects Fabregas to join Barca this summer, Xavi told Sport: "Yes, certainly, and it also had to be like this.

"Two years ago, I said Cesc would end up playing for Barcelona, and now it is clearer than ever. He has also expressed publicly that he wants to come to Barcelona and when a player wants to move to some place he ends up going.

"It is clear that Cesc will come to Barcelona."

Reports suggest Arsene Wenger is looking to sign Bordeaux playmaker Yoann Gourcuff as a replacement should Fabregas move on.

More money to be spent. The thing is that if Laporta doesn't make the deal in time then Rosell surely will just to show up Lapporta.

    PAY UP

I don't get why people think that. If Rosell wants a glamour transfer, Cesc won't be it. Far too much potential controversy around re-signing a former youth team player, no matter how good he is, for a huge fee.

Because they hate each other. Surely Rosell would love to see Laporta fail in his attempt to bring Cesc and then later succeed himself in the same operation.

The glamour signing will be Robinho though.

Yeah but what I'm saying is the Cesc transfer is so loaded, that Rosell could easily say "Laporta was ridiculous enough to try and pay 40m for a youth team player, I'm going to invest the money in other positions that are more beneficial to the team".

Perhaps. I guess Rosell can spin it either way. You never no what those nutty catalans are thinking.

Anyhow - what are the SPORT/MD polls saying? Do cules want Cesc back?

I don't recall any recent polls apart from one on MD asking how much would you pay for Cesc. The majority was 30m (which was the lowest option so quite obvious) but a big percentage were ok with 40m too. Beyond that the votes were minimal.

So I guess yes, people do want him back.

A team winning all in front of them. A team where most of the players are youth players you pay no money for. And you're still increasing your debt with crazy buys. Barcelona Ale ok Doh
