who is it gonna be in South Africa ?

4 years ago, the title went to Podolski

the Pole beat CRonaldo, Messi and Rooney to the post

    ------

my hunch is, the honour could go to a GERMAN yet again

Thomas Müller is as good a bet as any

    think about it

    Nah it was Podolski.

Podolski's predecessor was Landon Donovan, so this award isn't exactly a harbinger of a great career.

A better call would be Anthony Annan IMO.

Oezil should walk this one - the boy is special(i mean really special).

Ozil currently should be the clear favourite.

Others; Muller, Sanchez...and I'm struggling now tbh.

Reckon Pastore might have been a candiate, if he had played more, because he's looked quite classy in the short amount of time he has had on the pitch.

Germany will hopefully go far enough in this tournament for Özil to be a contender for a different title...

This said, I think that from the German perspective, Müller and Özil have performed on a similar level so far. And I say this as a Werder Bremen fan.

Have to say Muller has grown on me. Still not sure if I trust him in a two man attack but in a right wing role a la Kuyt he could be quite good since he works hard but he is good technically too. Still prefer Ozil but I might have to revise my stance after the Argentina game.

Depends on what happens in the next couple of weeks. Ozil could, I dunno, get his dick out and start strumming it. That'd put a downer on his performances.

Super, the most interesting thing about Müller (but also Özil, albeit in a different context) is his game intelligence, his runs without the ball, hence the nickname "Phantom". Skills, pace and hard work are one thing, but what makes him a truly great talent is his football brain, or 'instinct' even.

Muller does the simple things well. I'm not sure he's as good as you guys think he is, given that against England neither of his goals were particularly difficult, all the hard work had been done by others, and up against top class defences in the CL he struggled,

but yes, he shows a good awareness, as highlighted in his part in Podolski's goal. How far he can go, I don't know, he doesn't have the technical attributes of a "craque" as the Latamericans say, but - dare I say it - appears efficient ar what he does. Just like the good little German that he is... :llol:

Müller had some excellent matches in the CL actually, and in the league, too. There is a reason why Van Gaal continues to start him in basically all of their matches, despite the tough competition on the Bayern bench.

To understand his biggest strength you have to look at his game off the ball. He actually initiates a lot of moves himself, does have the 'vision' to see what could happen, 2-3 passes in advance. He is still raw and far from a finished product yet, but his attitude and mentality speak for him, too. I expect a lot from him in the coming years.

    for me

    Müller > Özil

take away THAT goal, and Özil has not had that big an impact

the flair is there, the vision, sure

    but not that much end-product

Müller has had more of that

although , to be fair, it a lot of it came when we were cruising

Khedira, also still a kid, in whom I had high hopes, has been mostly disappoiting so far

I wouldn't say that Khedira has been mostly disappointing, but he could have done better in the Ghana and England match. He definitely can play better than he has so far, no doubt.

Özil had a lot of end-product though otto, already had quite a few assists. But so has Müller, in addition to his goals. All in all, same level for me so far.
