Muller has already peaked. It's all down hill for him now (just like Lars Ricken).

Taking nothing away from the kid it's simply ridiculous that assists decide a competition based on goals scored.

Only other way to decide is goals to games ratio ?

He managed to master the art of poaching at this WC

Well, with his assists he also created three more goals. Not fair to just call him a poacher.

Wish we'd had him against Spain.

Think he'd have made a difference against Spain. Think Germans will win a WC in near future before we even say England. Or even France Sad

I just don't see why they scraped having players winning it as a joint award like in 1994.

goals:games would be a bit harsh as you're almost punished for getting far in the tournament - someone who scored 5 in the groups/2r but went out (say Vittek had got one more) would be rewarded more than someone who helped their team to the final.

Dunno why it can't just be a draw though Erm

Post by Isco Benny Sun Jul 11, 2010 11:27 pm

To be fair, good player, but 3 of his 5 goals were a piece of piss to score -

The 2 against England, a couple of yards out on the break, all the time in the world to finish,

and against Uruguay- a mistake from the keeper, typical poacher's goal.

More impressed with his assists and general decision making.

He has almost certainly benefitted from the unknown factor this tournament. It'll be interesting to see how he now develops, given that teams will not underestimate "the ball boy" (Maradonna's words weren't they?) and defenders mark him more tightly. Pluys he's not had a dip in form to deal with, injuries, hype or other such factors that often hinder young player's development.

I'm not convinced he's a particularly "special" player in the way that Ozil or Schweini are, but we'll see. Could be totally wrong

I think he's a special player. Sure, his goals weren't particularly great, and he isn't a particularly strong or quick athlete, he isn't amazing technically. But he's very clever, takes up good positions all the time, creates time and space for himself, makes himself available to others, generally makes very good decisions for a player so young.

True, but come on - he's played under 1 season as a first team regular at Bayern. That's a relatively short period of time to make a lasting impression. It's no coincidence that the "big" names are targetted at World Cups to a greater extent than relative newbies like Muller. That's why it'll be interesting to see how he gets on now that he's become a household name

    ok

Not often that you get someone that young who possesses that amount of game intelligence. I like him a lot - He lacks the x-factor of Ozil, but he always seems to do the right thing.

The novelty factor of Ozil wore off the more I watched him waste chance after chance

Muller was the complete opposite to this. He is definitely destined to become a typical German.

There is something I don't really like about his weaselly face, but I don't think I hate the same players as everyone else
