Rooney has it wrapped up IMO. Said in the thread on the EPL board that injuries aside, I think he's heading for 30 or more goals - which is the mark of a truly phenomenal season as a striker IMO. In the EPL, as far as I am aware, only 3 players have done it since the league has had 20 teams - Kevin Philips, Theirry Henry and Cristiano Ronaldo. Shearer might have done it too in 95/96 but can't remember when it was they reduced the league to 20 teams.

What do you think is Rooneys best position?

For Man Utd he plays as a number 9.

For England he plays as a number 10.

Irrespective of the scores, are you suggesting that the EPL has weaker sides than the Bundesliga?? Both are valued with a 2 co efficient.

There are 3 more relevant reasons why Rooney and Drogba are near the top:

    1) Both are playing as the main attacking fulcrum of their teams rather than as a strike partnership with someone else (as is traditionally the case)

    2) Both have managed to stay relatively injury free, therefore have built up uninterrupted games/form/momentum

    3) Both are shit hot

But obviously, your theory is much more scientifically sound Ale

We def don't rely on Suarez as much as we used to...but I love him. Excellent achievement for him! Blush

Nice list. Doesn't mean that the Premier isn't good defensively, United and Chelsea just are the best and it reflects in this list. Always thought Rooney was the key player for United even when the Cr7 was there, and this season he is proving just how important he is for this side to everyone that overlooked him in the past. Awesome achievement for him if he wins. Maybe Real will buy him now! jk

So where do we stand now with this?

Rooney now on 25 Premier League goals

    Drogba on 21

Messi on 19 (prior to tonight's la liga fixtures)

    Di Natale 19

    Bent 18

    Defoe 17

    Villa on 17.

Would one of our resident Germanophiles Ozil or Otto care to

provide an update on how the fully fledged members of the

    ECBOT club are getting on?

For illustrative ease, please include a bracketed suffix showing

how many goals LESS they have scored than ZEROoney so far.

    No?

Okay, slightly unfair. So let's just include how many they trail the

enigmatic talent that is Darren Bent.

    No? don't want to play?

Okay, happy to help out, but only if you insist:

Kuranyi is on 14 (-4 Darren Bent)

Kiessling on 14 (-4 Darren Bent)

Pizarro (LEGEND FFS!) is at the heady heights of 10 (-8 Darren Bent)

    Gomez is on 10 (-8DB)

    Kroos on 9 (-9DB)

    Ozil on 7 (-11DB)

It appears The World's Greatest Ever Polish striking duo apparently not even in the top 25.

Pipe down Pork n Cheese - LRD said RIGHT NOW, Rooney is one of the World's best. This was taking into account form - Rooney has scored 15 goals in 11 games. I agreed.

And fair play to him. He's an immense player, although doesn't need me to point that out.

If I were inclined to say he's simply the best Argentinian playing in the Spanish league and that's it, I would sound like a 'tard. So I won't.
