New Villa Manager Empty New Villa Manager

Post by debaser Wed Aug 11, 2010 2:56 pm

Listed most of the main names being linked.

Eriksson is currently strong favourite, but I really can't see it.

However I do think we'll go for someone who is relatively easily obtainable, which would rule out Hughes (bizarre rumour), McClaren, Jol, Bilic.

I'd like to think we won't stoop as low as Southgate or Curbishley, or making McDonald permanent boss.

Which by process of elimination would put Bradley or Klinsmann as most likely from the names touted..Klinsmann was heavily rumoured at the time Lerner first took over.

Or maybe it'll be an even more leftfield candidate. Dion Dublin, anyone?

I was thinking Michael Bradley would be a good signing after seeing him in world cup, so that might happen if we got his dad.

But I really don't know much about him as a manager. Never heard of him till the WC. Still unsure whether there's any substance to the link other than fact he's American and Lerner is American.

    --

I think Jol or Klinsmann would be my preferred from the above. Maybe Dave Jones.

I think Klinsmann would be an interesting experiment. He knows English football at least and got a lot of the German team while he was there.

Seen him against Brasil yesterday and he looked strong again. Would be a good signing for your CM.

Aye, me too. I think he's expressed interest in managing in England before and this might be the best job coming up for a while.

Many of A.Villa supporters wants David Moyes. Since they can't get an original one, what about looking for somebody who could be Moyes ver 2.0. Halloway? Dave Jones? Coyle would fit here, if he wouldn't move to Bolton last season. Martinez from Wigan? Paul Lambert?

What about foreigners not listed here - Pellegrini? Manzano (does he speak english)? Hitzfeld? Laudrup (don't think Mallorca would have any real power to keep him)? Fatih Terim? Van Basten? Temur Ketsbaia? Laugh

Would be very interested to see Martinez with a big budget - Villa should get a manager who likes a passing style.

They would be taking a step back for the 1st 6 months to a year but would eventually benefit from it.

Do they have the players for it? Petrov, Downing, Milner and Warnock at a stretch. Who else?

A Premier League football blog claims it will be Bob Bradley and it looks even more likely with the news he has now stepped down as USA manager.

He is set to be in England next week according to this.

"I think Diego would be very open to the idea of coming to England and managing Aston Villa," Soriano (his agent) is quoted as saying in the Midlands-based paper.

"He is very attracted to English football and the way of life in your country and I know he would be very willing to move there.

"He loves the English countryside and your respect for privacy, so he would be very happy there, especially at a big club like Aston Villa.

He added: "If the owner Randy Lerner wants to make him a serious offer, I am sure he would get a very positive response.

Apparently not interested in Bradley or Sven either. Jol's a possibility.

Also rumours that Kevin MacDonald will be tried for a season, as no-one particularly great available right now.

That would be good in terms of bringing through youngsters, as he knows them v.well from managing youth/reserves. As he showed by starting Albrighton & Clark yesterday, and giving Bannan, Weimann a few minutes.

Might be the best choice for stability at a bit of a messy time..

Latest rumouring says it's between Kevin MacD, Koeman or Klinsmann.

Not sure about Koeman. His last couple of jobs have not really ended well.

Klinsmann I've said before I'd be happy to see him in charge. I think he'd be positive about bringing through young players, as MacDonald has started to do, but would also raise our profile in terms of bringing in bigger names & he must have a lot of contacts throughout Europe. He hasn't managed in the PL before, but does know the league which I'm not sure can be said for Koeman.

MacDonald - no-one knows if he actually wants the job, or would be happier just to stay as coach. Not sure he's someone who would welcome all the media & pressure that comes with being the boss.

interesting to see what the next week brings...

Villa have said they wanted an experienced Premier League manager Erikkson, Moyes, Curbishley and Hughes should be considered among the front-runners. Apparently there is a lot of money going on Moyes at the moment, it would be a strange move i think to go from Everton to Villa.

Curbishly would perfectly fit Villa's new target of mid table mediocrity. Imagine, with Curbishly, you could be in contention for a top 6 point, reach 40 points, and then slowly drop down the table. O'Neil only ever managed rapid slumps.
