I'd like you to get Martinez.

I think you could get Gus Poyet. He did excellent things with Brighton. He's foreign. And probably quite cheap compared with the others. Welcome to Villa

Why would Martinez swap Wigan for Villa? Villa are probably worse at the moment.

You'll get someone pretty average IMO like Sven.

FFS, do you really want that question answered? Wigan get average crowds of 18000 & have little prospect of ever being anything more than they are now. Staying in the league is their raison d'etre. While Villa have had an awful season, we can at least realistically aim for top 8/European qualification & to challenge in domestic cups.

Villa job should be pretty attractive right now - the worst cutting has been done and most of MON's overpaid squad fillers have left, so there will be some money to make the team their own. Expectations have been dragged as low as possible & the fanbase will welcome whoever comes with open arms. It's a job that is crying out for a young manager who wants to build something long-term.

I like that Luis asks a question like that...but if similar questions are ever put to Liverpool they just default to "history, la".

Anyway, would be funny if Southgate got it.

You need to have faith Debaser, give him a manager who appreciates talent and not playing Ciarn Clark in an attacking position ok Albrighton will shine. Got to love a classic winger who gets his boots white, can dribble and can ping a ball.

Faith, it's all us villains have now the ginger conte is gone.

Are people pretending the likes of Benitez, Di Matteo and Capello would be interested in managing Aston Villa or do they genuinely think that?

Luis wrote:Are people pretending the likes of Benitez, Di Matteo and Capello would be interested in managing Aston Villa or do they genuinely think that?

No chance Capello. He's not going to want a long-term project like this at his age. He'll either want a role at a CL club, or just live off his reputation at a cushy new money club in Russia/China/Middle East.

Benitez unlikely unless he is desperate to get back to PL and he sees no hope for Liverpool/Spurs. He has been out of job for 18 months now, so might have to drop his sights a little..Don't see it though.

Di Matteo, though, is hardly out of Villa's league. If he doesn't get fulltime role with Chelsea, he'd jump at a job like this - let's not forget his previous managerial role was being sacked by WBA! He's only had a chance at Chelsea due to lucky circumstances (AVB failure) and prior club connections..

    Great in his time ok

His comments today about McLeish are a bit lame though. Don't see why anyone is defending that joke of a manager - he brings bad football wherever he goes, and I would've thought an attacking manager like Atkinson would be one of the voices criticizing his utterly bereft style.

I'd go for Rafael Benitez, and I do think he'd be interested.
He's been hanging around in England waiting for a job,
clearly he won't take everything and expect a decent sized club,
but he's likely to be aware that he'll have to take a step down from Liverpool as well.

Whatever the VIlla board do though,
the most important matter this time around,
is that they appoint someone the fan base support.

Too right ok I think fans will warm to nearly anyone after the horror of McLeish. The ones to avoid are Bruce, Curbishley, Hughton (he's okay but not so good it'd be worth going there again).

But any from the current touted frontrunners like Martinez, Lambert, Rodgers, Poyet would be welcomed, I'm sure of it. Benitez would be an easy sell on his record, though there was a bit of history with the Barry saga and such.

It's no offence to debaser or Villa but Benitez would not be interested. He is only interested in a job where he can win the league/Champions League. If he doesn't get the Chelsea gig this summer he will probably retire out of depression.
