I watched the game, it was definitely a cross. The reverse angle shows his eyes looking at Van Nistelrooy's run all the way through, and trying to put it on his head, but overhitting it...and goal! Typical of Kuyt
But overall, it was a very good performance by Holland...they are looking like a very solid team, building on the momentum from the World Cup.
IMO the biggest factor in their favour is that they have a fixed team now: the back 5 are the same (bar Pieters who is new at LB). De Jong is also a permanent starter, and his partner rotates based on opposition: VDV or a more defensive player (although I would always play VDV).
In attack, RVP/Kuyt/Sneijder are fixtures. Afellay was brilliant in the past 2 games, so it'll be interesting to see whether the coach drops him for Robben, or just uses the latter as a super-sub.
Either way, it's a strong team overall as long as the defense plays well together.

It was defo a lucky, Kuyt immediately afterwards made gestures to confirm that.

Of course he didnt meant it. Still a great goal though, his first wasnt too shabby either!
Holland was really poor after RVP left the pitch, VDV as a DM worked great on friday, but yesterday he was one of the worst players on the pitch imo. Good footballer, really poor athlete. For matches against tougher enemies, I would include van Bommel again.
Defense is a bit poor though, lets hope Belgium and Holland finally reunite again, then everything would be sorted and we would become a regular again for finals. But the worst of Holland, is their crowd. Worst supporters ever imo.
Even though Holland scores an average of almost 4 goals these qualifiers, im still not sure who should be the main striker for Holland. RVP is 10 times the footballer is, but Zlatan is also a much better footballer then Villa, yet the latter seems to work much better in a footballing team. Though it will only be a problem for a while, considering Castaignos will be international pretty soon me thinks, the little fucker destroyed england on his own yesterday.

Bulgaria and Montenegro are engaged in a bitter struggle... Montenegro scored the opener but Bulgaria have equalized and are now bossing 'em around the field.

Good result for Scotland, Lithuania could only draw 0-0 with Lichtenstein.
Of course if we don't beat the Czechs tomorrow, we're screwed.

yeah i was watching the live ticker..5 min before the final whistle belgium concede. Later turkey conceded and got a red card and I thought, well if Belgium had won it would be some interesting last three matches left. And of course it got even worse with turkey coring in 95thmin. Game over no excitment left. It's somehow always the same. So many teams that started out good just always bottle it.
(Btw DD your standings are not correct, GErmany have 8 games already, I think your standings have the game against Austria not included yet.)

My problem with the Dutch is that they are Dutch, like Deutsch, but missing something, and that something makes all the difference.
That said, can you disprove what I wrote, can you? CAN YOU? No, you can't. Dutchland was once again the root of heartbreak. Poor Scottish souls will wake up and know who to blame for their misery. While their hated southern neighbours will be in the tournament again next year, the only ball playing sport they'll enjoy is beneath their kilts. And all thanks to the Dutch.

Republic of Ireland got a 0-0 draw in Russia. They may well be sitting 3rd come the end of today, but that's a decent result which by my reckoning puts them in prime position to finish 2nd.
Last 2 fixtures are Andorra away & Armenia home, which really should be 6 pts, while Russia & Slovakia play each other in one of the final games. So I think 2 wins would guarantee 2nd. 1st would require Slovakia to beat Russia but drop points in one of their other games..
I'm not sure there's going to be anyone that scary in the 2nd place playoffs...likes of Serbia, Croatia probably the strongest. All the big names seem to be set for 1st.
