Post by Pierre Littbarski Wed Sep 20, 2006 7:29 pm

CALCIO ITALIA: Why didn't you go to the World Cup?

OLIVIER DACOURT: Raymond Domenech wanted reserves who wouldn't create problems. Alou Diarra wouldn't protest at going and not playing, I probably would have. For the same reason he didn't take Ludovic Giuly, Phillipe Mexes, Johan Micoud and Robert Pires. He played the same 11 and the rest were just reserves.

CI: It's said that whatever Domenech saw didn't count much, the players chose the line up...

OD: That's true. He didn't really have anything to do with it.

    CI: Why is that ?

OD: He managed to argue with almost everyone. He was the U21 Coach, and at that age just playing for the national team is everything, so he could impose his choices on the players. Things changed when he was in charge of established stars. David Trezeguet isn't happy to sit on a bench and Zinedine Zidane just wouldn't accept his ideas.

I'm not expert on the French national team, but I'm not surprised. There was one instance in the World Cup - I can't remember what game, though I think it was before extra-time against Italy in the final - where Domenech just stood at the touch line and Zidane dragged every player over to the centre circle and seemed to discuss tactics. Domenech looked oblivious to what was going on. At the time I didn't think much of it, but having heard Dacourt's opinion on it...

Maybe Dacourt forgot to say that Domenech has never picked him for the national team.

Also don't forget that Henry made negative comments about Ribery's performance after the opening game - guess who got dropped for the 2nd game Rolling Eyes

Touch of the green-eyed monster there I think.

Henry probably thought he'd be top boy once Zidane retired but the emergence of the scar-faced genius changed all that.

Ribery put down his marker in the opening half hour v Georgia.

    He is top boy.

Don't think so. Malouda is the top man so far. He has been just awesome, along with Vieira. Ribery is still drifting in and out of games.

Malouda could become one of the top 5 players in the world.

If u see malouda on his day, u'd be telling everyone he is world class.
I have seen him alot and i have changed my opinion on him almost everytime i have seen him. This season has been different though, he has been nothing short of brilliant!

I personally don't think he is playing in his right position - ofcourse i don't know as much as his coaches but i think it's best to play him in midfield( between the defensive midfielder(s) and striker )

Ontopic: I would probably agree with Dacourt; I rememeber the semi final between france and portugal, when france took the lead both maka and vieira rushed to zidane and told him from then on to drop back and help defend. That was really a sign that it was the senior players who were actually in control.

Dacourt is rubbish and should have not gone end of matter. and dpomenech is obviously so tactictally unaware that he only took a team that everyone ruled out as being past it to the final by beating the better teams in the WC, with the exception of italy who were average.

im amazed how you 'english' fans seem to know how things work in the french dressing room, and found it strange that ateam mate should tell another to come back and defend!!! o no!!! that must mean they are in control of everything!!!!!

dacourt was never picked in squad and so will never know how it is, a bit like all of you lot and myself.

Yup. I've seen him three times so far this season. Everytime he has been so fucking awesome it's hard to keep away from the truth: Malouda who last season was a pace merchant with no final ball is now a midfield playmaker demon.

    Eh ?

Malouda has had a final ball for a long while now.

If you think he's going to be the main man ahead of Ribery you are mental.

Maybe I am, but in the last three France games, Malouda>>>Ribery.

Believe me, Malouda's currently the best player in the world.

You can't compare Ribery to Malouda, they are different players. Malouda has really impressed me this year, he is playing great. Last year, he was only playing good games against good oppositions, this current year he has been far more regular.
Ribery will France's biggest star in the soon future, but Malouda has also became paramount for France and Lyon. The same can also be said for Abidal. The reason the French team is playing so well is because of the blend of experience players playing abroad and the young generation playing in France (Abidal, Malouda, Ribery, Toutalan, etc), mainly for Lyon.
I think it's quite normal people think Malouda is not great player since he didn't to anything special during the world cup, but he is becoming one... and u will be able to judge this during the c.l with Lyon
