Matrix gives up on Zizou
Marco Materazzi has admitted he is ready to give up on trying to make peace with Zinedine Zidane.
The two have not met since the infamous episode during the World Cup Final, when the Frenchman was sent off for headbutting Materazzi, who had provoked Zidane with remarks about his sister.
"I have tried every possible way to make up with him, but I am just about ready to give up,” said Materazzi from Italy’s training venue in Coverciano, where the Azzurri are preparing for Saturday’s Euro 2008 clash with Ukraine.
“I told FIFA I was ready to resolve this, but now I’m tired of this situation. In the end I was the only one to pay.”
Both players were fined and banned by FIFA and Zidane, who is now retired, agreed to do community service work with children and youngsters.
“I keep on hearing nasty comments about me, including Coach Raymond Domenech’s latest statements saying I’m top of the list of the provocative players,” he added.
“This is untrue, but I have decided I prefer to ignore these things.”
Inter are going through a difficult moment after the new Telecom scandal and the disappointing performances on the pitch.
“After we were assigned the last Scudetto we have been depicted in the wrong way,” Matrix insisted.
“Someone says this Scudetto is cursed. I only know that I want to win another one on the pitch, so we can finally celebrate as we deserve to do after 17 years.”
The Azzurri ace also sided with Christian Vieri, who threatened to sue Massimo Moratti and his club after he was informed that he was tailed by the Via Durini outfit.
“I think Vieri only wants to protect himself, it is never nice when your personal life becomes public,” he said of his former Inter teammate.
“He is a man of honour and has given five years of his life to Inter, I understand his disappointment.”
