Barça to sign shirt sponsorship deal

The inevitable has happened. A key aspect of the "mes que un club" campaign is dead


UNICEF will remain, and will be joined by the logo of the Qatar Foundation. I guess it's a small crumb of comfort that they are a "non-profit entity" and will be paying Barça an incredible 30m euros a year for 6 years, which I think is higher than any other club around. (what kind of non-profit earns enough to fund 30m euros a year in sponsorship )


Official announcement is later this afternoon.





Coupled with TV3 on one sleeve and the LFP (or CL) logo on the other, it will make for a very cluttered shirt. The International Club champions logo will be gone soon though.

SwissRamble says the deal is five years at €33m a year. That's an incredible amount of money though, and certainly beats the deal between T-Home and Bayern Munich.

Presumably it's not a coincidence that Pep was endorsing the Qatari World Cup bid, and then a week later, wouldn't you just know it, his club sign a world record shirt sponsorship deal with a not for profit organisation lead by the Qatari royal family. I'm not sure why the foundation itself needs to raise its profile, other than as part of a concerted effort to gain the Qatari state greater recognition across the globe.

Actually it is 30m a year plus
15m the first year for image rights plus
a potential 5m in bonuses

so it is basically 165 + 5m .. not bad..

But I still would have preferred not see that happen. However, if it is true, that Laportas business model was based upon some 25-30m sales in players each year, and our trackrecord in selling, then I guess it is ok

Apparently these are the 3 options:

the unicef logo in the center of the shirt actually makes the middle one not look as ugly as the rest. but it still pretty ugly

well at least they're using just the wordmark, latin only, without that hideous baobab tree or whatever their logo is.
and you're fortunate that "qatar foundation" is a pretty long name to fit there, which means the x-height is limited and the whole thing doesn't get much prominent on the shirt.

£25mil in English money.

I think it's good - it makes sense. The club have a lot of debt.

Barca will go to Qatar for pre-season friendlies, winter breaks etc from now on.
