Fucking hell, good thing Mascherano timed that. At least it looked ok. Need to see a replay.
Yup, super tackle. Bendtner just let it get away.

I think he was being sarcastic. ie. ref saw RVP "deliberately" wasting time.
--------------------------
3-1 now, but feels hollow. Though I'll say one thing - the quick goals are not because of Van Persie not being around, but because Arsenal's remaining 10 switched off mentally.
Goal#2 was mainly down to Djourou slipping over.
And while they not directly down to the red, it's the build of pressure because they have zero outlet, plus the psychological swing in Barcelona favour (lifts crowd etc). Straight after they'd scored when the pressure swung in Arsenal's favour.
Outlet? Van Persie had negligible involvement in the game so far.
True. But he was on the pitch, his presence meant Barca defence have to be more wary. He doesn't have to actually be touching the ball to keep a defender or two occupied - and give keeper at least something to aim for when he kicks out.
I think the confidence/psychological is the main thing. Barcelona would've been shocked to find themselves level again and with away goal cancelled, but that decision just gives a massive boost just when the needed it (how handy )
--
Be hilarious if Arsenal snatched it now, with all the chances Barca pissing away. I would probably laugh for a week.

Roma. Is there a team more consistently underachieving slash shit in Europe?
Another European adventure in which Totti has achieved nada. And yet, some scorn Messi's achievements in the Champions League

Zero shots. Pathetic from Arsenal.
The sending off will give Wenger some ready made excuses though.

Well done to Barcelona. Comfortably the better side over the two legs and deserved winners. Aside from a fairly resolute central defensive performance (for the first hour anyway) I was really disappointed with Arsenal today (and in fairness, Almunia excepted). As so often in these big games they just didn't get going at all. Still, I don't suppose that really matters. It's pretty clear that we were up against more than just a great team today. A referee like that is worth his weight in gold and that red card decision was scandalous.
Arsenal pay the price for taking it too easy in the group stage Rückrunde. If anything, hopefully that's the lesson Wenger takes with him into next season.

Made it through but I'm not happy that despite some good moments, it took a big decision from the ref to finally swing it Barça's way. If they continue like this, they're out in the next round. Especially with this kind of poor away form in Europe.
But Arsenal's 0 shots (let alone on target) did help too.

Barca had a goal disallowed in the first leg that would have put them 2-0 up, and had a penalty not given that could have put them 3-0 up.
But because of one deserved red card in the second leg, somehow the referee is to blame?
Cool. Glad that bias and stupidity is not only alive and well, it is looking increasingly well nourished. Barca should have won this tie about 6-1, Arsenal were lucky to still be in it after 45 minutes of the first leg.
Oh, and Bendtner -

I won't comment referee's decisions, as I don't want to see myself in the corner against a superior opposition; but really disappointed with the way Barca was playing today. For me their only player who did a good job over two legs was Abidal.
Put some info about Szczesny injury in Arsenal's topic.

Totti has been woeful this season, if he was ever going to achieve anything in the CL it would have been some 5-10 years ago. The comparison is not really fair though, Messi has much better opportunities to shine in the CL when playing for a club like Barca.

1 - Barcelona attempted more shots on their own goal than Arsenal managed themselves (0) in this match. Exit.

Yep - all those times that Totti has had a CL campaign alongside Alves, Puyol, Iniesta, Xavi, Villa and failed to deliver
When Messi wins a WC with most assists in the tournie at 60% fitness and cuts Germany to pieces on their own patch - give me a shout.
Bullshit decision from the ref - has there ever been a Swiss person who isn't a massive c**t ?
Its unbelievable to hear our pundits saying there is no hard luck story - the score was 1-1 when he was sent off!
absolute horseshit - worthy of Howard Webb at Old Trafford that one.
Bendtner
There used to be some fans on here (mainly Spaniards if I remember correctly) who used to claim that Villa was superior to Eto'o - Villa is quality but Barca would have had 7 with Eto'o in his place.

I agree that Etoo is better than Villa as an overall striker, but disagree that he's better at finishing. Etoo too had games where he would miss 5 chances but score 2. I'd say they're about equal in that aspect.

I just read Totti didn't even play in the game today, did he?
Anyway, as you said, in his prime Totti could have literally gone to any of the three big clubs in Italy(or even abroad) at any time he wished. I would have loved a prime Totti in Milan, and I'm pretty sure he would have won a few titles as well while being the protagonist.

When was the last time an English team got a penalty or had an opposing player sent off in a CL knockout match? I'm sure our resident conspiracy theorist will be able to tell us.
Not that it has any relevance to tonight's match. There were no red card offences from Barcelona and, to win a penalty, you need to be in the other team's penalty area.

Actually there were, before the end Messi shot on goal while he was given offside.
