    FRANKFURT

Eintracht Frankfurt started their last Bundesliga game with 9 German players and also finished with 9

    many of them were kids

    even better

many of them come from the region around Frankfurt, called Hesse/n

    they are local players

so far the club has yet to lose a game in the Bundesliga

the fans love their home-grown talents to bits and regularly sell about 50.000 seats

AGAIN: these are not SQUAD players, they are STARTERS

Ajax have only 4 players from Amsterdam ... and only 2 can say they play in the 1st team ..

However they do play (1st XI) - with 8 Dutch players...

Indeed. They start with 11 Basque players and finish with 11 basque players EVERY game. The only problem is that they are crap and might go down.

I'm really glad for Frankfurt. Both Frankfurt and Hertha had to concentrate on their youth after they had some financial problems, and for both clubs, it has paid off already. Hertha at the top of the Bundesliga, and Frankfurt doing better than the top clubs like Schalke, for example, both in the Bundesliga and UEFA cup.

Other clubs like Hannover or Hamburg really should follow their example. Trochowski is the only German player for Hamburg who has a chance to play for the Mannschaft in future. They usually only have 2-3 German players max. on the pitch. Hannover is even worse, because they have a ton of mediocre or simply crappy foreign players in their squad, who are not even cheaper than their German counterparts. HSV has some quality foreigners at least.

They do have some quality foreigners. Still, it wouldn't hurt if a so called "German" top club had some top German players in the squad, would it?

I wouldn't mind VDV coming back to Amsterdam ..

hmm..you echo the same thoughts about Arsenal in England..

Yes, the same applies to Arsenal in England really, although I can somehow understand Wenger on this, because English players tend to be ridiculously overpriced. Can't say the same about German players really, not even by the lower Bundesliga standards as far as transfer sums / wages are concerned.

VDV is actually a good foreign player who helps to improve the standard of the league. Don't get me wrong, players like him are always welcome. But mediocre or crappy foreigners who don't help the Bundesliga, and hurt German football by making it much harder for our youngsters to get into the squads of the clubs, are not.

Valencia have a lot of Spanish players but they aren't all from the region. Really only Vicente, Albelda, and Albiol are from Valencia...maybe Gavilan but I think he is from Gran Canaria.

Even if they always beat your fav team.

We usually have around 6 players starting for us that are English...all of them from Middlesbrough.

we'd have 7 if Riggott was fit, but he's not from here.

We also usually about 3 more Boro born lads on the bench.

Yeah, and not one of them is any use, needs more investing that academy.

For 1 or 2 games last season, Middlesborough fielded 11 Englishmen.

If we go back to the 60s (I know times have massively changed since then), Celtic won the European Cup with 11 Glasgow born Scotsmen, something I know will never be repeated

    @ S4P

What if everyone in the World died apart from in say Leeds and Lisbon and the two teams played out a game every year to decide who would get the European Cup - in that case would the players not have been born in their home town?

    Never say never Wink

    How about in Champions League?

    Sporting starting eleven against Inter:

    11 players
    1 Argie
    2 Brazillian
    8 Portuguese
5 "home-made" talent from our academy
    4 players U21!

Palermo qualified for UEFA Cup last season and usually used 9 or 10 Italians in their starting line up.
