Riquelme's fall from grace is one of the most spectacular I've seen for years. TBH I can't remember a player going from "considered top 3 in the world" to entirely disappearing into oblivion in less than a season.

And yes, I would put Messi in before Ronaldo in the SA line-up. No bias there, I honestly think (even if it is hard to prove that there is no bias in anything we do or say).

    @toon

Riquelme: Lampard's fall was maybe worse. he was second in the world, and now...

Ronaldo: yes, I agree messi is on better form, but I'd like to have a matador in my team, a killer, a proper striker. and messi is not... but he would be a great Tevez's sub... Wink

Lampard is still one of the better players in England. He was never second best that was a ridiculous joke.

The same counts for Riquelme. He is a good player but he lacks also a lot of qualities to be a top player

    My Euro XI:

    ---------------Cech---------------

    Sagnol--Ferdinand--Carvalho---Cole

    ----------------Pirlo---------------

    Ronaldo---Gerrard---Frings---Robben

    ----------------Toni---------------

    - No need for a physical CB - need positioning and pace there verse the South Americans.
    - Pirlo and Frings to pull the strings, Gerrard, Ronaldo and Robben to inject pace.
    - Toni would be more effective verses South American opposition than Villa.

For playing Africa I would insert Nesta and Villa for Carvalho and Toni

Lampard scored his 21st goal of the season this weekend. From MIDFIELD. Playing in a team competing for an unprecendented quadruple.

He has fallen from grace because of a poor WC and internationally has looked average,

but at Club level there is absolutely no way he has fallen from grace - still keeps doing what he does best- scoring lots of goals

yeh, I know he's a good player. what I meant was that he was considered by some the best in the world, and not anymore.

and riquelme is still a very good player as well.

    1 deflection, 3 penalties, 2 against a League 1 team and 3 against a League 2 team.

It's actually not that impressive once you take that away and look at his lack of midfield work.
