We aren't signing another striker just because the #10 shirt is vacant. Before Saha we went 2 seasons without signing a #9
Not to mention that there are only 12 days remaining in the window, assuming they focus on Heagreaves, that, i'm sure, is a situation that is going to take all their time.

Re: Manchester United 2006/2007
Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Manchester United want to sign Owen Hargreaves from Bayern Munich.
The England international has been seeking urgent talks with the Bundesliga champions in an attempt to resolve his future.
Having pointedly refused to commit himself to Bayern, even though he has recently signed a contract until 2010, Hargreaves has indicated that he would like to move to Old Trafford.
And Ferguson stated today he wants the Canada-born midfielder at the club, explaining: "We have been trying to negotiate with Bayern Munich for quite a while now and of course the boy has said he would like to join United. We would like to have him here."

Ferguson admitted he had been an admirer of Hargreaves, 25, for some time, and confessed to hoping Ruud van Nistelrooy might have joined Bayern to help smooth through the England international's Old Trafford move.
With the Dutch striker choosing to move to Real Madrid instead, it is now left to Manchester United chief executive David Gill to conclude the transfer of Hargreaves before the August 31 deadline.
"It is in David Gill's capable hands. He's doing his best," said Ferguson. "You can never be confident but we are hopeful. We are dealing with a big club in Bayern Munich. The relationship between the two clubs has always been good.
"We would have preferred Ruud van Nistelrooy to join them because that may have helped us with the Hargreaves situation. That wasn't to be, but hopefully we can get something done."

So there was definatly a swap deal immenent but Ruud wanted to go to Madrid. This smooths things over about the whole bayern ill feeling that they didn't get Ruud

Yeah, lets hope he's ready for the Charlton game next Wednesday, especially with Scholes out.
No way he'll make the Fulham game on Sunday now.

Re: Manchester United 2006/2007
so what will it be Hargreaves and Carrick midfield for Charlton although i read Carrick is still a week away from full training so you could be looking at Hargreaves/giggs or Hargreaves/Fletch i for one would like to see Park played central V charlton he could be effective.

Re: Manchester United 2006/2007
I think it will be Hargreaves and Fletcher or even O'Shea.
Then Giggs and Park on the wings and like you said maybe Ronnie up front with Saha.
The only way it maybe Giggs is if he plays Ole or Rossi up with Saha and then Ronaldo and Park on the wings.

yeah i think he'll play Ronnie upfront he is much more of a goal threat then giggs and can play level with Saha rather then dropping off. Hargreaves and fletch then i would think that will be interesting

Villarreal have stated that Marcos Senna will not be joining Manchester United as the Spanish side have lost patience with The Red Devils' after their lengthy pursuit of the World Cup midfielder.
United had been chasing the 30-year-old for a large portion of the summer but never managed to close a deal, and now the Yellow Submarines have ended negotiations with Sir Alex Ferguson's side.
The Premiership outfit were given until the end of Friday to tie up a deal but with chief executive David Gill firmly engaged in their attempts to bring England international Owen Hargrevaes to Old Trafford it seems they have finally missed out on Senna's signature.
The Brazilian born midfielder would have been allowed to leave the Spanish side should a suitable offer have been tabled, but with no such bid forthcoming Villarreal president Fernando Roig has drawn an end to the prolonged negotiations.
Whilst confirming he had lost patience with United and that Senna would now stay at the club, the Villarreal supremo criticised the English giants for dragging their heels over a deal.
"They've turned his head without bringing the matter to any conclusion," said Roig.
"It isn't good for the relations between the clubs because people should behave in a more correct manner.
"We waited until yesterday for them to finalise the conditions of the move. The player can wait longer but we can't and the case is now closed.
"He will stay and we will have to see if he renews his contract or not."

I wouldn't worry too much. Villarreal obviously want to push through a move asap, but I'm sure if you went in with a decent deal even towards the end of August you'd get Senna, he wants to leave and Villarreal will take the money. But if it's August 30 and Gill tries to be cheeky with bids of 2 million and what not, then yeah, you may well miss out on him too.

Re: Manchester United 2006/2007
Yeah I think Villareal will take the money for him given that he can leave for free next season and SAF might as well do it.
Heagreaves has 4 years left to run on the contract, all the power is in the club's hands. If he had 1 of 2 years left then maybe he could influence things but at this stage he can do nothing so I hope SAF can just forget about him and move on to Senna or else we'll end up getting none.

As a signing if we can't get Hargreaves.
Would give Carrick the chance to hold and control the play and Muntari to run round like a nutter.

He's already had trials with us a while ago, Fergie wasn't interested in him then and is unlikely to be interested in him now.
Though yes he would be a great signing to have.

Re: Manchester United 2006/2007
Yeah, I know that but that would of been the same deal with Diarra.
I don't think it would be put Fergie off.
I thought the reason he didn't sign after the trial was the work permit?
Anyways hopefully we get either Hargreaves or Senna, however Muntari would be certainly one player I'd look at if we get neither.

I can't see Udinese selling him but for an extortionate price. And given how the H saga is going I don't think they'll be enough time to thrash out a deal.

Re: Manchester United 2006/2007
I think there resigned to selling him.
Pompey want him and the fee was £9.5 million but you can bet if we bid that would be nearer £15 million.
