Same thing as the centre back poll - 4 votes the two highest will be the wingers/wide men/attacking forwards for the first team, the next two highest for the second team. 2 or 3 days to vote. Keep the debates coming as well <Ale>

I was origionally going to just have a wide men/wingers poll but then I realised my formation is going to be a simple 4-4-2 but if someone like Ozil or Nasri wins I'll just shift them out onto the wing for the purposes of the formation as I want there to be 2 strikers for each team and I mean proper out and out strikers.

Really need more than 20 options for this poll so here are some more names you may want to vote for - simply post them instead.:

    Robinho

    Aaron Lennon

    Andrei Arshavin

    Theo Walcott

    Adam Johnson

    Dirk Kuyt

    Ashley Young

    Andres Guardado

    Michel Bastos

    Ryan Giggs

    Angel Di Maria

    Mesut Ozil

    Gervinho

Ronaldo can't make it into a best 'team'. It defies the very logic of this whole thing sticking him in there to blast endless shots into row z.

Bale and fucking Elano ahead of some of those options?....whatever floats your boat.

I'm probably one of the few that doesn't think Bale has done enough yet to be considered up there with the likes of Robben. He was brilliant at the start of the season, vs Inter etc which we've seen 100 times now thanks to Sky. But since his injury he hasn't been anything special. I'm sure in a few years time he'll be brilliant but for now? no thanks.

Still wouldn't rate Bale up there just yet.

Explain Elano to me? He was decent at City but has he done anything of notice since he left?

Seems retarded to vote for those 2 over Ronaldo, that's all I was getting at Ale

Messi's not a winger and not really a wide player anymore either. I'll vote for him in the "best forward" poll.

    Pedro, Bale, Nani, Robben.

I'm a big fan of Silva but his lack of goals means I wouldn't pick him in a best team, esp. with the 4-3-3 formation that's prevalent nowadays.

The death of 4-4-2 has really screwed up the choosing of people's dream teams. Used just to be two wide players, two central midfielders and two strikers.

Now we have to deal with inside-out deep lying false number 9s and try and shoehorn them into our teams.

    Tell me about it.

If I had a modern formation we'd end up with Ronaldo and Messi as strikers which isn't the case.

I don't think Bale has been good for a while. I remember a few games before his inury he wasn't really effective. Great player in the future maybe but pretty one dimensional IMO, the best wingers cut inside as well.

First we had some idiot naming Elano
Then another pipes in to write Bale off on the back of one or two games post a long term injury
And to top it all off another idiot comes into a thread about wide players and puts Eto's name forward

I voted for Bale, Pedro, and Robben. My fourth choice is Di Maria, who isn't in the list.

I don't think you can consider Messi a wide man any more, he plays almost exclusively in the centre for Barcelona and the same for Argentina. Don't know about some of the others but David Silva is definitely not a wide man either, as has been often discussed.

Ozil could play in goal he's so good <Ale>

Although is Ozil really a winger? Seems obvious he's more of a central playmaker. Not the type of player who can dribble at pace down the wings. But if you want him in all these lists, including at centre back and defensive midfield, speak to the author bluey.

I don't know what Luis is on about regarding Bale - he's been consistently good for a year and half now, it's only people who never watched or cared to watch Spurs who decided to sit up and take notice after the Inter game. Sure, it's been overplayed/overhyped/overmentioned, but whose fault is that? Bale should probably not have bumraped the universally accliamed best right back in the World. And Bale does cut inside quite often as well, also seems a fallacy to say otherwise. See his goal against Chelsea last season for when it can work quite well.

    All that said:

Ronaldo, Messi, Robben are all better wingers than Bale currently.

özil played some games on the wings

for example the athlitco madrid game, and there was no quality loss, he played some games on the left or right

and even when he plays in a central role, he is always everywhere on the pitch and supports ronaldo or dimara, özil is far more than a central playmaker

    Correct.

It's all a little ambiguous I know - players like Suarez will be included in the striker poll yet he isn't a striker really, he's more a forward or support striker.

If I had included Messi and Ronaldo in the striker one then for the first team they'd be the strikers most likely which would have been a bit silly.

First we had some idiot naming Elano
Then another pipes in to write Bale off on the back of one or two games post a long term injury
And to top it all off another idiot comes into a thread about wide players and puts Eto's name forward

    Madness
And another idiot starts crying coz people have different opinions Razz

Clearly, you haven't seen Eto'o play much for Inter... he is primarily a wide player, one of the best on the left wing at the mo...

Just because we don't watch Inter every week doesn't mean we are stupid enough to call Etoo a wide player Erm

One of the best strikers in the world, but you think he's one of the best left wingers in the world, FFS lol!

I'll leave this open until tomorrow but it looks like the first team wingers are Robben and Messi with the second team wingers Ronaldo and Bale.

Keep voting in the centre mid poll and the final poll will be added tonight - the striker poll.
