Unsung EPL Team of the Year Empty Unsung EPL Team of the Year

Post by FootballFarrago Sun May 08, 2011 9:13 am

Alex Hess brings us the latest (and possibly the last) in our instalment of Teams of the Year.

This time it's an 'unsung' team, featuring the likes of Kalou, Holden and Bramble. To see who else got in and comment read the article at:

I'd have gone for Vaughan of Blackpool rather than Etherington, as more under-rated.
Tiote for Fellaini, too, unless he's considered too 'sung'. Fellaini missed too much of the season, anyway.

Kalou's a reasonable shout, but I would note that Chelsea's biggest slump came at the time he was playing the most. Perhaps DJ Campbell - 11 goals is a good haul for a non-league player..Or Doyle, who hasn't scored enough, but is v.important to Wolves. This assuming Odemwingie is not in the unsung category, or he'd take the spot..

    Chris Baird

Utterly, utterly crap until this season, Baird has done a good defensive job for Fulham under Mark Hughes.

This is bollocks, he was one of Fulham's best players in their run to the Waffa Cup final.

I don't think Kalou is underrated. If anything, he's lucky to be at as competitive a club as Chelsea. Scoring a few long range punts and tap ins and being a decent impact sub isn't much crack.

Debbie's right about Tiote. He's the must have player in this sort of XI. What the hell has Fellaini done this season except elbow people less often due to not playing as much?

Stu Downsyndrome is a perpetual presence in this sorts of teams, and quite rightly as he's a talented if unspectacular player. However, I do wonder how often someone can be acknowledged as being underrated before it becomes, as the article notes, self-defeating and meaningless.

I'd say Walcott would be a decent bet this season. While all the focus at Arsenal has been on Nasri and Wilshere, both massively overrated, Walcott has quietly got on with having his best season and being a bigger part of Arsenal's promising run up until Feb/March than several seasoned international players.

I would also suggest that the young Welsh lad at Tottenham hasn't got the credit he deserves this season.

FF - no disrespect but you gave us a link to an Americas team which featured Luiz (average half season) ahead of Coloccini (very good season) so i won't even bother looking at this one.

No disrespect but your avatar is a picture of an arse so I'll ignore your opinions too Razz

I would have said Zabaleta at CB was the controversial choice ahead of Coloccini, but each to his own. Sometimes I think people who do these teams deliberately leave players out or include others just to create debates and arguments...

Colo has also got back that immaculate first touch & control that he used to possess in Depo days (& first half season for Newcastle). Exciting to watch as well. How he reads the game & makes those interceptions.
