QPR fans angry at rise in ticket prices• Season tickets up by almost 40%
    • Move described as 'slap in face of QPR supporters'

Queens Park Rangers supporters have reacted angrily after learning they will be charged up to £72 to watch their team in the Barclays Premier League next season.

Club owners Flavio Briatore, Bernie Ecclestone and Lakshmi Mittal are cashing in on the club's promotion back to the top flight by hiking the prices of both matchday and season tickets.

The cheapest tickets will be £47 while season tickets are up by almost 40% from last term, although with four home games less in the Premier League compared to the npower Championship, the increase is even more in real terms.

The price rises were widely predicted but have still been met with dismay by many Rangers fans.

"It's an absolute disgrace and, yet again, underlines the total contempt the owners of QPR have for the fans," said Paul Finney of the Independent R's website. "Flavio Briatore's dream is a 'boutique' club, which has an exclusive feel to it and is the place for wealthy people to be seen.

"Not only is that a slap in the face of QPR supporters, it is not in the long-term interests of a club that has two other Premier League clubs (Chelsea and Fulham) on its doorstep."
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

See we get loads of abuse but our owners do care about us fans, my season ticket will be £550 next year which is a bargin up only £50. This action by QPR is a disgrace.

Thats a very negetive view of it, whats not to suggest they dont care ? they have done so many things for the fans since they have taken over its really incredible (i dont just mean spending lots on players etc), so many things that arnt reported on by the media. Im surprised at how much they do actually let us have such a say in the various things that happen and try to cater to the fans needs..there's such a community feel to the club now more than there has been for decades.

I guess i shouldnt expect you to know about them cos your not a fan but its easy to assume they are just doing it cos they can afford to...the QPR owners can afford it so why dont they keep prices reasonable ?

Well, I am kinda cynical Smile I sorta take the view that if you spend hundreds of millions on a club without having any previous link (and I can include Villa's owners in this, as they've taken similar approach in essence), if you've got any sense you then quickly make sure to get fans onside. Hence do research on what fans want, invest money to meet their wishes and it pays off long-term. It's not a bad thing that they do this, as it makes both sides happy, but ultimately I am pretty cynical about motives. Are fans any more than a means to an end for them?

Either way at least they are being good owners from a fans point of view and not fucking us over like QPR's.

Yup. Fair enough. There's enough examples of people getting it horribly wrong (QPR, Blackburn, Birmingham, Liver's last lot) that I probably shouldn't really pick on the rare breed of obscenely rich bastards who get it right, as far as fans concerned.

You must be joking the prices have been frozen for a few seasons so £550 for a seat on the half way line (others available adult ones availble in other parts of the ground from £405) at a top 4 team is very decent. Also they offer fans a season ticket for £250 if you let the club select were you sit...surley even you have to say thats very decent.

How much are your season tickets ?

Actually Arsenal 'standard' season-tickets go for more than £1400. £1400 is roughly the price for the second best standard seats.

Surely for Man City it's an issue of demand. There have been plenty of games, especially in the cups, where your place was half empty. If they charge much more then people won't go.

We have a season ticket waiting list so the demand is high and our home games were pretty much sold out last season (it was just the away end that let attendeces slip from 47k to sometimes 45k) so they could increase the prices and still fill it i thnk. I just think they want to keep fans happy, they respect us and want to maintain a good relationship with us and not price out fans.

I think the attendences were down for a few of the cup games cos a lot were played over a short space of time (massive fixture back up) and i think it proved to expensive for some people even though the club kept the prices fairly reasonable...maybe thats a bit of an excuse though cos i thought they should have been higher than they were.

Season ticket waiting lists are meaningless. Ours apparently stretches back the best part of a decade - but season tickets are easy to come by if you are prepared to pay at the top end of the market, and there are always plenty of empty seats. It's easy to sit on a waiting list and pay a minimal amount. I must admit I'm with debaser on being a cynic. I don't think any club owners respect their customers, especially not those who have come late into the industry and do so for their amusement/increasing exposure. It's just shrewd PR - and let's be honest, that isn't exactly hard to achieve. Your former owner, the corrupt human rights abuser managed to achieve it simply by singing a song.

And I don't think that can be cited as a legitimate reason. You must have had 20,000 empty seats for some of the cup games, and all the top clubs have congested schedules, more expensive prices, and see European games as more routine than City would at this stage.

Yeah i did say it might be a bit of an excuse cos to be honest i have been dissapointed with some of the attendences.

Its up to you to be cynical the worlds full of them after all, but neither of us can prove it either way although im confident im right...and either way as a supporter i feel very lucky to have them as our owners.
