Martin Jol is Back! Empty Martin Jol is Back!

    cheers cheers cheers cheers

    Delighted.

"Martin Jol's big fat lovely face is back in English football, as he has been appointed as the new Fulham manager. The big man has signed a two-year contract at the Cottage, with Chairman Mo moving pretty quickly to replace Mark Hughes. So what can we expect from Jol? Will he bring his brother Cock? Or his other brother Dick? "

As a couple of Spurs fans put it writing into F365:

For He's A Jolly Good Fellow...
Welcome home big man, let's hope you are treated with more respect this time.
    Chris, THFC

...I'd just like to express my delight at seeing Martin Jol back in English football.

As a Spurs fan, I was embarassed by the shabby way that he was treated in 2007, and I admit that I still hope to see him back in the dug-out at White Hart Lane one day. I suspect that he'll do very well with Fulham, and look forward to seeing how he handles questions about that statue in his wonderful, implacably Dutch way.

And If he feels like squaring up to Arsene Wenger again at any time over the coming season, so much the better.
    Michael Chalk

...Just a quickie. I'm delighted to see Martin Jol back in the country.

Ever since he and Wenger had a bit of a touchline spat and his summary in the most match interview was a calm, measured "I don't know why he spoke to me like that. I am much bigger than him." he has been something of a personal hero.

Fulham are now officially my second team.
    Dan, Watford

    ------------------------------

So, will he be more successful at Fulham than Mark Hughes?

He'll probably do okay, though I think he'll struggle to finish any higher than they have the last 2 seasons.

Was one of the names linked with us. Depends who we end up getting as to whether I'm disappointed we didn't go for him..

It's a strange one really, Mark Hughes leaves because he has delusions of grandeur, and he is replaced with a far better manager.

Do a couple of Dutch cups really make him a 'far better' manager?

Jol came closer to breaking the top 4 with Spurs than Hughes did with City.

Don't think Hughes is that bad a manager, but think he saw how an 8th place finish with Fulham would look good on his CV, despite the fact they were pretty underwhelming for most of the year. Also, I think he didn't really believe that he could better what he had achieved in his first season.

Fact is that he made him himself the joke of the Eredivisie with how he operated at Ajax...

Worst manager in the league by a country mile, don't think he'll ever get a job in Holland again.

...then again : he did well at RKC, Tottenham & HSV.

Aye, for sure. The MJ statue and now this. They're on the map baby Laughing

Martin Jol was revelation at Spurs. I'll never understand what the fuck was going through Levy's head to sack him for Ramos.

He'll be warmly welcomed back to White Hart Lane when Fulham come to play

Best signing of the summer so far, good to see him back after Spurs treated him so shabbily. Fulham have done well - Hughes got them into top 10 and Europe, and now they have the manager they'd really wanted.

Got to say Fayed has made some very good appointements as Fulham chairman, Keegan, Tigana, Hodgson, Hughes and now Jol, for a team like Fulham (all due respect cos i like Fulham) they have been lucky to get so many decent managers one after another...even Chris Coleman wasnt that bad, it was just Sanchez that was a let down.

    Don't forget Wodge.

Big Mo is a very clever man, the original money-drenched Arab to buy into English football.

    Axy.... The facts are different!
His first year at ajax he broke almost every record, with a poor squad he broughrt ajax back into the Champions League where they weren't in for years... ! He collected more points than any other trainer for Ajax this Milenium. He scored more goals (over 100+) with Ajax than every trainer since Van Gaal....
And you say he was a failure? You are, like the Brazilians (read Puro), too much impressed by the "dangerous" Dutch press!!

The *facts* are that Ajax was third and slipping when Jol left. That was *after* he had for the first time gotten full control of transfers.

The *facts* are that Jol blamed the lack of wingers/funding for Ajax's standing : only if he got 10M to spend on wingers could he make Ajax a title contending outfit.

The *facts* are that Frank de Boer took over and seemlessly fitted in youth players Ebecilio, Ozbiliz (both wingers), Boilesen and Blind.

The *facts* are that Frank de Boer benched Jol's star-purchase El Hamdaoui and won the title from an impossible position.

    FACTS Ale

On top of that : Mido, Tainio, Sno, Atouba & co tell me you're full of shite Ricky....well no surprise there Wink
