Derby della Madonnina Empty Derby della Madonnina

Post by bluenine Wed Jan 11, 2012 4:20 pm

I had not expected to be excited about this derby the way Inter's season has been progressing, but the last few weeks are making it interesting... Inter have won their last 5 games, scoring 13 goals and conceeding just 1. Sure, these wins have come against weak teams, but Inter are finally starting to show some life. So there is some hope.

Milan have been steamrolling opponents in the last dozen matchdays with a 12 game unbeaten run, leading the league, and will start as favourites for this one.

But if Sneijder recovers in time, and Maicon's injury in last game does not rule him out, Inter have a chance. Coz finally Milito is back in form, Samuel is "The Wall" again, and Alvarez is starting to show why he was rated so highly in South America.

This might turn out to be an interesting game yet. It is critical for Inter's Top 3 finish ambitions to not lose this one. And Milan will be wanting to make sure Inter never get into the scudetto race this season.....

    Can't wait!

Inter's Line-up that I would like to see...

    Cesar
    Maicon - Lucio - Samuel - Zanetti
    Stankovic - Cambiasso - Motta
    Alvarez - Sneijder
    Milito

Coz when it comes to the derby, experience counts! And packing the midfield helps, coz these derbys are always won in the midfield.

Yes, it is. I just hope, if Sneijder is indeed fit, that Alvarez does not get pushed into the wings... he needs to play terquartista, or near that position.

Last 2 games have made me change my opinion about the lad, he could become huge.

Derby della Madonnina Empty Re: Derby della Madonnina

Post by bluenine Fri Jan 13, 2012 2:50 pm

    football-italia review:

The Derby della Madonnina is wide open, as both clubs are on exceptional form and Inter can sensationally get back into the Scudetto race.

This is always perhaps the biggest fixture in the Italian calendar and it could not have come at a better time for football fans, no matter who they support.

Milan are unbeaten in 12, including 10 victories, in which they have scored 32 goals and conceded just eight. They are the joint Serie A leaders alongside unbeaten Juventus and the reigning title holders.

On the other hand, Inter have won their last five on the bounce, something they had not achieved since Jose Mourinho’s time in May 2010. A disastrous start under Gian Piero Gasperini and Claudio Ranieri’s early problems suggested qualifying for Europe could be a struggle, let alone going for the Scudetto, but the tide has turned. A win would put the Nerazzurri within five points of their city rivals and burst the race wide open at not even the halfway stage of the competition.

Wesley Sneijder, Dejan Stankovic and Diego Forlan all hope to be fit enough for at least a spot on the bench on Sunday night. Sulley Ali Muntari is away on Africa Cup of Nations duty, but was not expected to feature anyway. Diego Milito finally rediscovered his scoring touch by netting three in the last two games, while Ricky Alvarez is finding his feet on the left side of midfield.

Milan wish they had a full squad to choose from, but Massimiliano Allegri is without Mario Yepes, Mathieu Flamini and Antonio Cassano, while Alberto Aquilani, Luca Antonini and Taye Taiwo require fitness tests. There is also the possibility Gennaro Gattuso could make his comeback after four months on the treatment table with an eye condition, though he probably won’t be risked in such a pressure cooker encounter.

Alexandre Pato is expected to start from the bench after turning down a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain on Thursday, a decision that wrecked Milan’s bid for Carlos Tevez.

Keep an eye on: Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Milan) – The Swede has scored seven goals in his last six outings for the Rossoneri. His partners in attack may change, but Ibra remains the key to Milan’s title push and he will relish taking on his former club. After all, he has netted in two of the last three derbies.

    Form Guide: Milan (W D W W W) Inter (W W W W W)

    Last season: Milan 3-0 Inter

Stat fact: In all competition, Milan have won the last three consecutive derbies, including a 2-1 victory in Beijing for the Italian Super Cup on August 6. Inter’s last success over their cousins was 2-0 on January 24, 2010. These sides haven’t shared the spoils since a goalless draw in October 2004, followed by nine Rossoneri wins and seven for the Nerazzurri.

Milan (probable): Abbiati; Abate, Nesta, Thiago Silva, Zambrotta; Nocerino, Van Bommel, Seedorf; Boateng; Ibrahimovic, Robinho

Inter (probable): Julio Cesar; Maicon, Lucio, Samuel, Nagatomo; Zanetti, Thiago Motta, Cambiasso, Alvarez; Milito, Pazzini

Derby della Madonnina Empty Re: Derby della Madonnina

Post by bluenine Sat Jan 14, 2012 2:16 pm

Sneijder & Forlan are back cheers not sure they are fit enough to start....

    Inter squad:
    Julio Cesar, Castellazzi, Orlandoni;
    Zanetti, Lucio, Maicon, Ranocchia, Samuel, Chivu, Faraoni, Nagatomo;
    Thiago Motta, Sneijder, Alvarez, Poli, Cambiasso, Obi, Coutinho;
    Pazzini, Forlan, Milito, Zarate, Castaignos

The critical decision for Ranieri is how to integrate both Alvarez & Sneijder into the starting XI, if the midget is match fit. IMO he has to do this by sacrificing a striker, not a midfielder. A light midfield is always suicide in "Il Derby".

My ideal line up from this squad:

    Cesar
    Maicon - Lucio - Samuel - Nagatomo
    Zanetti - Cambiasso - Motta
    Alvarez - Sneijder
    Milito

Tho I think Ranieri will probably to go for:

    Cesar
    Maicon - Lucio - Samuel - Nagatomo
    Zanetti - Cambiasso ---------
    --------- Sneijder - Alvarez
    Milito - Pazzini

I have a bad feeling that in the above line up we will get run over in the midfield. 4 attacking players is one too many for a derby.

Well we missed some chances and conceeded a soft goal, but with all this possesion in our favour we really didn't create enough.

For anyone who undermines Aquilani's importance in Milan, this was the perfect example of it. Out of all our midfielders, he's the only player who can actually play football and create chances (well Seedorf can too, but he's legs are gone).

We can still win the league with this team, but to make the step forward in Europe we really need to improve our midfield.

Haha, that's true, he really can't finish to save his life Laughing Actually to be honest today was nothing, he has missed FAR easier chances (this year alone iirc he skied the ball on two occasions from point-blank range, with the goal completely open)

Thiago Motta's goal was wrongly ruled out at the start of the game.

Ibra - Pato were crap and Milan missed an Aquilani/Seedorf type playmaker in midfield.

    1-0 Inter FT
A match up in tactics and at times stale but we did see some chances. A huge fuck up by Abate but what a clinical finish by Milito with his left foot! Had that ball gone to anybody but Milito I don't think it would have been a goal. Milan tried and they certainly created enough chances to warrant an equaliser but it just didn't go in.

Great result for Inter and Juventus who will be extra disappointed that they couldn't get those 3 points in an easy home game. Inter are hereby back in the race for the title. 6 points from Juventus and they still have to meet them away plus another derby with Milan.

Congrats Inter fans. Zanetti was amazing, and you guys obviously wanted it more since it was the only hope to stay in the race.

    We were totally shit.

Right, so as many have said, we need to get rid of Pato, and we need to do it fast. What an inept footballer in one-on-one situations.

Boateng, Ibrahimovic, Nocerino, Abate and Zambrotta were atrocious. We really missed Aquilani, who would make the midfield move much quicker. By the time we would get a move together Inter would have two layers of defenders. Emanuelson was surprisingly okay, but not very good. He did what he had to, and that's it.

Van Bommel was ok as were T. Silva and Nesta.

The only slight gloss on today is the other results.

Zanetti is a God, its unbelievable how well he players at 38, still starts & finishes EVERY game at Inter in ALL competitions. That was his run & assist which created that goal.

It was a tough game, Milan dominated the midfield & possession, but lacked the creative spark to finish it. I guess one of those days when just passing it to Ibra is not going to be enough (we had a few of those when Ibra used to play for us).

Inter did not play particularly well, but we showed good spirit, and we showed our hunger.

6 wins from 6 games, that's a good run which we desperately needed. 3rd place (which looked impossible 2 months ago) is starting to look like a reality now, but I wouldn't say we are back into the title race. There are too many teams ahead of us, and we have lost too many games to be in the race. But if we win the next 6 games, who knows... Smile

Loved how unhappy Midget was after the final whistle. He doesnt like it at all his team had a good run in his absence. He is such a c**t.

Inter defended very well, though total lack of creativity from Milan, and it wasnt even to blame on Furby, who did rather okayish considering how awful he is. Bommel was a beast again though, real leader. Though his legs are almost gone, same as Seedorf. Milan lack a player like Clasie!

    Robinho is horrible btw.

Zanetti is a complete role model in football. At 38, he still plays more minutes than anyone else at Inter, still covers more miles than anyone else, just been sent off once in 17 seasons & 775 games, he is always well spoken inside & outside the pitch, loyal, consistent, and does a lot of work for charity.

Pupi Zanetti! When they made you, brother, they broke the mold.

One player we haven't thanked enough - Samuel had Ibra in his pocket the whole game. The wall has been the main man behind our resurgence in the last month or two. We have stopped shipping goals mainly due to his masterclass.

We are so going to miss him when he retires. Ranocchia is talented, but he is not half the defender Samuel is.

Must also credit all 4 CB's playing yesterday. Thiago was brilliant, easily the best Milan player IMO. Nesta & Lucio did well too. 4 legendary defenders, its sad that 3 of them are going to retire soon... Football won't be the same when they are gone, they don't make defenders like these anymore.

Nesta & Lucio did well too. 4 legendary defenders, its sad that 3 of them are going to retire soon... Football won't be the same when they are gone, they don't make defenders like these anymore.

Ye Samuel,Nesta and Lucio are all great defenders,Nesta was probably the best out of the 3 though,IMO best CB since Baresi.Lucio and Samuel are up there with the best CBs in the last 15 years.Haven't watched enough of Thiago Silva yet to judge how good he is.
