Take off those rose-tinted specs Bernd. I know the fact that we may be able to celebrate St Totteringham's day this season, despite it looking bleak for so long is getting to you Wink

Laughing Nice try, but look here - if a player dives, he dives. Whether he plays for Arsenal or not is a side issue. Just because it's not being discussed by the media doesn't mean it didn't happen.

On the balance of things, Arsenal don't tend to get many blatant decisions VS the other so called big clubs, so I don't begrudge them this one. But it was still a dive in my opinion, albeit not a horribly blatant Bale/Ronaldo/Carroll type one, but a dive all the same.

And yes, thanks for reminding me about St Totteringham's day. Can't bloody wait Rolling Eyes Crying or Very sad

Yes the fact that Di Matteo has done poorly in the league has somewhat been ignored, the fact that he has done well in the CL and won the F.A Cup has over shadowed it.

Di Matteo hasn't exactly done anything revolutionary. He just went back to the same old Mourinho method.

You don't have to do anything revolutionary to be a good coach. It's about the results and Di Matteo has them. In the league Di Matteo has been poor without a doubt but unlike AVB he has had to play FA Cup as well as CL which is different from AVB who between december to february had only the league really to focus on and still did poorly.

Not to mention that that Di Matteo has had actually had succes in two cups!! He has won the FA Cup and reached the final of CL. Would AVB have turned the Napoli tie around? Somehow I doubt it. AVB made the mistake of thinking this Chelsea team could play in a way that it wasn't suited for. Why is that laudable? He should have gone for something more realistic and waited to change the squad more fundamentally in the summer. This is not to say that AVB is a poor manager but he was too naive. He could become a good manager if he understands why this didn't work.

I think he does understand. I also think he was hindered by the fact that the old guard were pretty much unwilling to embrace the change. However, I take your point that not all of them were ready for another style of play. AVB's high line proved suicidal in the first half of the season, most notably Terry against us.

Di Matteo isn't bad but i'm still not convinced by him. This is the same guy that failed at WBA. But yes, there is scope to say that he deserves a full season at the helm.

AVB is the better manager of the two though. He'll prove this in the future too. He's tailor made for Arsenal ok

I think AVB clearly didn't understand that. Although I will say that Abramovich probably hired him to get him to clear
the squad and then he ends up taking the fall. I hope AVB gets another chance to redeem himself at a big club.

Obviously Di Matteo has some things to prove still but we will see what happens if he gets another season with new players.
