i don't think defensive midfielders necessarily need pace to be efffective, maka and emerson are both slow but they are still one of the best in the game

Although I think Alonso may be the more skilled of the two, I believe Gerrard is the more influential player over the course of a season and got my vote.

Both class though, and I think they make one hell of a pair. Good move by Liverpool brining in Alonso.

When Cesc learns to tackle, and score goals (neither of which he's any good at at the moment) then you can start talking about him in the same sentence as Alonso.


Yes, Henry scored a header. Albeit unmarked, 7 yards out, right in the middle of the goal i.e. a chance that even John Hartson could score.

First of all, u might be surprised to learn that xabi hasn't scored more goals than him over the past two seasons. and secondly, u might also be surprised to learn that cesc has won the golden boot in various youth competitions. That isn't a surprise to all arsenal fans because we know he is one of our most clinical players at the club - see his first goal in the CL. The reason why we are not seeing many goals from him has to do with where we are playing him at the moment. I have said it many times, he isn't a DM! he is an atttacking midfielder, so he doesn't need to be a good tackler either.

dont get me wrong, i think he is AN AWESOME PLAYER, i even think hes world class, but i dont think he is the best CENTRE MID in the prem

Yes because that chip yesterday was all about pace or that pass against villareal or that header that set up trez against germany...i could go on and on.

When he loses his pace, we wil be seeing him in the Bergy role. There is no forward with better vision than him at the moment. we have infact started seeing a change in his game over the past two seasons, he is playing less deeper- in a more creative role.
