Might be hard to believe given the amount of coverage given to the hooligans over the last 20 years, but you'll find that it's custom for certain supporter clubs to arrive in host country early and get involved in more positive relationship building exercises than smashing up their town centres.

A fair point and it is definitely better than it was. However it is very much dependent on whether people get the criminal record. Lots of stuff goes on where people don't even get arrested, let alone charged, taken to court etc. And there is always young blood with clean slates ready to add a bit of colour.

Sure, sure. BUT, as an Official member, they - public bodies, namely the FA as well as the police and foreign baton wielding riot mentalists - have access to plenty of your personal information: your passport photo, number, where you live, who your work for. Thus making the job of identifying and charging a person far easier.

Aside from not being able to join if you have a criminal record, you'd have to be particularly dim witted to join and then travel with these clubs if you were then intent on causing trouble.

The "real" hooligans do their best to remain anonymous for obvious reasons. And I imagine this time around, the prospect of taking on brick shithouse ex paramilitary neo nazis on some hostile scrubland in Easter Europe probably doesn't appeal as much as smashing up cafes in Paris or Berlin. I'd be surprised if English hooligans made any headlines this time around. My money is on the Germans V Poles Ale

You know, just because people may have a criminal record it doesn't necessarily mean they are sociopathic hooligans who can't abide by society's rules.

A very elitist and small minded attitude you have if I may say so.
