Hmmm. Wasn't one of your greatest ever players born and bred in Africa - Eusebio.
Portuguese land, at the time, Portuguese nationality. Still our own. It would be the same if we had a game against Argentina and went there calling for Neymar. Stupid thing to do, IMHO.EMP wrote:As I mentioned in another thread, the Spanish referee was sent home for cocking up Greece v Poland, so there is no conspiracy over the lack of a Spanish referee.
I had wrong info, one of the refs is British. But hey, with the refs saving Spain and Germany after that statement by Platini, some might get suspicious.
IMHO Mozambique was never Portuguese; it was colonised. Portuguese nationality was imposed on them. Was Eusebio given any real choice at the time? I'll bet if Mozambicans tried to claim Portuguese nationality now they wouldn't get a passport unless they were a new Eusebio. Not a dig at Portugal, as other colonial powers are no different. One of France's best players in the 1938 World Cup was Algerian I believe. After football he was treated like shit and exploited by the Nazis. He was executed after the war for pretty vicious collaboration. And England nicked a few great Indian cricketers to play for them as well.
