    @bluenine

Not so sure...2 French clubs are already out of Europe (Lille and Montpellier) and Marseille could join them, meaning France may only have 3 clubs in the next rounds of the EL and CL combined.

As for Portugal, Sporting and Braga are out of Europe.

Italy have a good chance to capitalize with 5 of their clubs still in Europe (Udinese have a very outside chance as well).

Right..yep...you're right. Just looked at the standing carefully.

So there you have it 3 French teams are out of Europe, and 2 Portuguese ones are out.

The Bale goal wrongly disallowed last night for offside against Lazio:

    UEFA Europa League 2012/13 - Page 11 1353607681017

Would usually shrug this off as one of those things. But off the back of 3 disallowed goals in the corresponding fixture at White Hart Lane - of which 2 looked perfectly legitimate to everyman and his dog - at least it's (dis)heartening to know that it's not just Premier League referees that are shoddy in calling the key decisions

If you think Premier League refs are bad, have a look at Serie A refs. FIFA don't realise how badly poor refereeing impacting the game in Italy...

Its time to embrace technology... at least trial some sort of limited appeal system in Serie A.

Many italian fans don't travel to Rome for Serie A fixtures aswell.
It's friggin ridiculous that it happens every fukin time.

Really Lazio/Roma shouldn't be allowed to play in Europe while this continues to happen every time.

Or at the very least make them play their home ties behind closed doors, with the reasoning that if away fans aren't safe to visit the city, then it's fairer to have no fans at the matches.

England managed to improve the hooligan situation a great deal over past 20 yrs. Italy doesn't seem to make any progress, at least in Rome.

How can you blame the football clubs for something that happened the day before the game?

What are the clubs doing to try and stop their long-standing hooligan problem? Of course it is impossible for them to police what their fans do away from the ground, but maybe the only way to get through to these fans is to act against the club.

Let's recall that English clubs all got banned from Europe for 5 years for problems caused by certain fans only, so there is precedent for acting against clubs for things which were nothing to do with them directly. This was a big step in clearing up hooliganism in English football.

Italian football needs to do something about the Ultras and maybe they are not willing to take action until there's some outside pressure.

I am not sure how you plan to stop Roma ultras by punishing Lazio?

Apart from that, I do agree. UEFA needs to crack down on this, coz FIGC won't do anything. At the very least, make them play in empty stadiums or a neutral city for a couple of years.

there's both Roma and Lazio Ultras causing problems as far as I know? so both Roma and Lazio need to deal with it or face sanctions. Wasn't focusing on one or the other.

It should be a massive embarrassment to Italy that foreign football fans can't safely visit their capital.

That was atrocious. But like bluenine says, in Serie A that would be considered a brilliant decision, judging by the standard nowadays.

I remember in WC2002 when Vieri said the refereeing was like village refereeing. It seems now that is the case in Serie A. Erm

The Dutch teams are all out, not happened since 15 years. Though UEFA should take note to the Euro League that even Twente and PSV stopped taking it serious. No idea why though, cause Holland only is sure of 1cl place. And that's the champion, so one of those teams, or both of them, will look very stupid in may.

I think there is a proposal being considered right now which would allow the EL semi-finalists to qualify for the CL next season, with the winner making the group stages directly.

I think that's a brilliant idea, and considering the crazy money that comes from playing in the CL, that will be incentive enough for most teams.

On the down side, it could mean the unlikely scenario of England or Spain ending up with 10 teams in Europe.

I would say, let all teams from each country into the Champions League (super knockout competition) and all countries into European Championship and play the World cup with all 206 countries. Just because. And money. And it would be unfair to the minnows otherwise.

Suppose it makes sense from a commercial perspective, as it will allow for money to be spread out more equally.

Clearly devalues the champions league though. And well, the name would have to be changed.

    The rankings now

    4 Italy 11.375 15.428 11.571 11.357 10.250 59.981 6/ 6
    5 France 11.000 15.000 10.750 10.500 9.416 56.666 4/ 6
    6 Portugal 6.785 10.000 18.800 11.833 8.083 55.501 5/ 6

Italy is slowly starting to pull away. By the end of today, Italy will have 5 teams in Europe, Portugal 4, and France only 3. Again, notice how poorly Italy has done in the past. They are already within a point or so of their entire total of last year!

Quite a strong rumoured team for us tonight:

Reina, Johnson, Carragher, Skrtel, Enrique, Allen, Sahin, Henderson, Sterling, Suarez, Suso.

Not entirely sure on the permutations tonight; I think we have to better young Boy's result to go through but a win for us would mean we go through no matter what?
