FT1 - 1. A point at Goodison is on paper a decent result and it was an improvement on the performance at Villa Park - though that's not exactly an overwhelming achievement. Defensively we look better for having Gibbs and Chesney back, but midfield is a big problem - Arteta can't do it all on his own all the time, Ramsey is simply not good enough (although as with Diaby's injuries, AW is blind to his shortcomings) and we are missing Song from two seasons ago. Hopefully Rosicky's return will give us more options - we have to be stronger there, play Coquelin, do anything but just don't put Ramsey there.

It was really a daft decision to sell him. Completely unnecessary. I guess Wenger(the gambler) was counting on Diaby to stay fit Laughing

Valuable win - always enjoy beating Liverpool.

I don't think that our 2nd half performances are as a result of deliberate defensive tactics, we lack a playmaker and it's compounded because there's no striker to hold the ball up to change the momentum that the opposition builds up and it just snowballs.

It's no coincidence that the only game we've been able to close out with ease (@ Home to Aston Villa) we had a fit Dembele and Adebayor on the pitch.

Assoue Ekotto in at left back,
Vertonghen moved into the middle and partnered with Kaboul,
Parker rotated with Sandro over 90 minutes,
    Adebayor upfront,

All a combination of viable options currently missing to AVB which would improve the performances considerably.

    @EMB scribes

Can we clarify the general consensus regarding Liverpool's 2 penalty appeals please? I have had a Liverpool supporting friend of mine literally frothing with indignation that both weren't given.

As far as I was aware having watched the replays, Gallas and Dembele both touched the ball respectively. Even Alan Hansen appeared not to agree with Brendan Rodgers assertion Liverpool were robbed of two legitimate claims. Infact, I know not of a single pundit who claims they were clear penalties. Despite this, Brendan seems very indignant about, apparently Steve Gerrard's was "bordering on an assault" Laugh

    http://www.101greatgoals.com/gvideos/liverpools-penalty-drought-baffles-brendan-rodgers/

My Liverpool friend suggests I am simply quagmired in a shallow pit of denial behind my "Spurs Goggles".

Is both he and sharkface right? Have I missed something here? Were Liverpool robbed at the hands of the referee?

Skrtel's tackle on Dempsey was bordering on assault and Bale was actually fouled by Agger.

    Dempsey got what he deserved.

In all fairness though, at first you all thought they were penalties, or understand why it would have been seen as a penalty. The Suarez one wasn't, its actually a good tackle from that below average defender Gallas. The one on Gerrard would have been harsh but it could definitely been given.

We missed too many chances as usual, wasn't surprising you won, had way too much pace for us.

Well, he's a silly little sausage then isn't he? He wasn't also vehemently defending Bale's penchance for falling over as though Gareth were a close member of the family coming over for Christmas was he?

Personally, my 2pence worth: Liverpool were the better team in the second half and a draw wouldn't have been undeserved. However, it's not the first time Liverpool have dropped points against lowly Premier League cannon fodder like Spurs, so perhaps it's actually what they deserved. After all, they can't hit a barn door with a banjo at the moment, and that in itself requires some skill

Actually I thought Liverpool was the better team after the first 20 mins and although in that first 20 mins Bale was pretty awesome the goals were individual errors such as downing not being aware of lennon and reina doing something only he can explain during the freekick. I don't buy the excuses that Downing was playing in an unfamiliar position or that it was the fault of the the wall. Downing is a professional footballer and it was the side that Reina was covering. They are both at fault.

Spurs chances after that were a few free kicks from Bale. I forgot Defoe was on the pitch until Dempsey barged him off the ball and shot wide. I do remember quite a lot of chances (and inept finishing) from liverpool such as henderson missing an open goal, a suarez shot cleared off the line, enrique shot narrowly wide, etc.

The dembele-gerrard challenge looked a bit 50-50 and could have been given as a penalty, the other one was a good challenge but even if it hadn't been I never expect Suarez to be given a penalty. Liverpool were fortunate with the own goal though.

I thought it was a first poor game from Sterling, and Shelvey should play a lot more. Maybe they should start with Shelvey and bring Gerrard on in the last 15 mins of games when the opposition is tired.

I'm not overly surprised we faded after the first 25 minutes - we were away in Lazio Thursday night, London Derby on Sunday, Liverpool on Wednesday.

3 big games in 6 days, and practically the same side for all three.

This was quite entertaining from last night

Neither were penalties IMO, but i'm not sure on the rules when it comes to tackling anymore. It's turning into the fag sport Americans have always accused it of being. No wonder bitches like Suarez are so successful.

Tottenham fans are quite thick in general. They think they know it all. Yet, some of them seem to think they have a divine right on that 4th place. But if you confront them with the fact that they are more likely to finish out of the top 4 they look at you as if they see water burning. I once had an arguement with one of those thick fans who thought fixtures were not important!
