Not a problem with giving players a chance Worms. Nobody would purposely discriminate against English players - the fact of the matter is that they aren't good enough. Hopefully St George's Park will help bring about a change in that problem though.

Re: Champions League Semi Finals Thread
I think there is definitely a problem now with young English players willing to settle for a bit-part role at one of the big clubs rather than going somewhere where they'll play (maybe - shock horror! - outside the Premier League). think it's too easy for them to get comfortable & not progress once they've established themselves to a certain level (i.e. got a big money contract).

Re: Champions League Semi Finals Thread
If you based it on the youth teams, Englands u17s, u19 and u21s are regularly in semis and finals and occasionally winning competitions. Similar success for EPL teams in the (admittedly still early) cross continental nextgen competition. So the challenge is making sure the development and desire continues past that first contract. Gareth Bale is a fairly unusual example of a recent British player schooled in the English game who developed early, was hyped up and instead of then stunting, continued to improve and show the willingness and focus to do so. Developments to St Georges park and the Premier league youth leagues are designed to help with that challenge. We ll only know in 5-10 years if it's successful, but at least the structural changes have been made as opposed to just talking about them, as has been the case in the past

Re: Champions League Semi Finals Thread
England's greater problem is the lack of quality English coaches foremost. There are a number of promising young players, the English youth teams have been doing alright actually. Quite a few good players, even if they've been lacking truly inspirational talent as far as I can tell. But still, enough promising material to work with. But there is a lack of young English coaches who could bring new ideas and evolve the English game.
England needs to create an environment in which young coaches are given time and resources to build teams and express their ideas, just like Italy have always done in their lower leagues. There needs to be more appreciation for the tactical aspect of the game. This is probably the more important task of St George's Park, as the youth development at England's top clubs is actually already pretty decent. That and the already mentioned necessary improvement of giving those talented kids some playing time in the league. Moving abroad wouldn't hurt either, of course.

yes, this too. far too few clubs at all levels in England are willing to commit long-term to a project, and are quick to sack manager at first sign of trouble.

Factor in that English managers haven't been fashionable since the 90's (Robson, Hoddle, Venables, Keegan era). Almost certainly a lot of that IS the fault of the English managers and their desire to simply survive as opposed to progress, hence some of the dinosaur tactics utilised by the likes of Fat Sam, Pulis (strictly speaking not English, but might as well be), Pardew. The pressure for instant success hasn't helped, and that a lot of clubs are just happy to exist in the Premier League. But when you have the likes of Adkins and McDermott getting sacked despite the excellent work they did bringing their clubs up and adapting a modern style of football (albeit at times naively), really what hope is there for young English managers in the Premier League?
Incidentally, did anyone else know PSG's assistant Manager, Clement, was English? There are also a lot of Englishmen in coaching capacities here in the US for instance, and in the far east. Perhaps this is where they need to cut their teeth first currently to get that shot in the Premier League. St George's Park may change all this completely in 10 years given it's underlying purpose is to train English coaches, not players. things can only really get better given they can't get any worse if you're an English manager.

I don't think UEFA are really pleased with Borrussia Munchen Gladbach'04 as the final. Wondering if they think a lot of people won't be watching it, which might happen. But on the other hand the CL-final should be big enough for potential viewers.

All German people will be watching, which basically means all of Europe plus North America will. At the end of the day, we're all Germans.

I think most of the world is tired of watching 6 el clasicos a season anyway, so if it had to be a same country final as it has turned out, then it couldn't be better than it is. I don't mind who wins.

I'm not big on the same country final and especially if it would be a repeat nation(Spain). So far the same country finals haven't been particularly good and exciting. The best being the all English final out of the 3.110% wrote:I think most of the world is tired of watching 6 el clasicos a season anyway, so if it had to be a same country final as it has turned out, then it couldn't be better than it is. But I have higher hopes for this one and I would be quite fine with either team winning it.

Why do German people want to be English so badly if we're German anyway?

It was the other way around. WW2 was all about bringing everyone and their grandmother "heim ins Reich" (and getting rid of the ...unwanted ones).

7:0 against the so called best team in history
jesus if we win the treble we will be called the best treple winner ever
no team before was ever that DOMINANT before
schweinsteiger bossed AGAIN, he bossed Pirlo and Xavi, best midfielder in the world, but of course he would be nothing without his team mates and our tactically superiority, but of course this count`s also for Pirlo and Xavi, when they bossed everything
