Pretending? Their is a tempered realism about our position - if we go toe to toe with a club like Chelsea for a player we aren't going to win, no point going into meltdown about it in the same way Liverpool fans do on the odd signing Spurs compete and gazump them on (where were we to steal the 6 plus signings they made since January? GET YOUR OWN SCOUTS! ).

Personally, I'm still admiring how we managed to sign the likes of Vertonghen, Paulinho, Soldado, Capoue, Dembele without CL football. You see, we remember how bad we were 10 years ago and use it as a barometer to be satisfied with the present. Liverpool boast about their history, but all it does is emphasise how dissatisfied and delusional they are. You'll never be that good again, teams like little old Spurs and Chelsea and Man City with no history are going to lure players you can't.  Even Arsenal is turning Suarez's head. ARSENAL! Your sense of entitlement which creates all that bitterness is like a coat which you're best off shedding for a happier life. Enjoy the eternal struggle for 4th, we are and it's fun!
So being proud of winning 18 titles and 5 European Cups (as well as countless other domestic cups) is a bad thing? What's the point of winning at all if you can never look back on it and be proud?

How is it delusional to remember winning trophies on a consistent basis? Nostalgic maybe but not delusional.

We'll never be that good again? Well, that's your opinion. Did anyone think ten years ago that Chelsea and City were going to be winning titles and European Cups? Or that Spurs would be closer to Arsenal? I don't think so.

As far as I know we haven't lost out on players to Arsenal. We've lost out to Spurs and Chelsea but hey, we managed to get the likes of Alonso, Mascherano, Torres, Reina, Suarez, Coutinho and Sturridge whilst being in the wilderness (a wilderness where we won a European Cup, got to another final, won a few FA Cups, a few league cups, Super Cup, Uefa Cup and managed our best ever points total, missing out on the league title to a team that had Ronaldo, Tevez and Rooney)

Liverpool fans are realistic, no one is expecting a title challenge like Spurs fans are because they've signed Soldado and Holtby. We can't expect anything higher than 5th until we get taken over by owners who are willing to go that extra mile in the transfer window but we're liking what we're seeing for the most part - the idiocy of the previous owners has been demolished, the new owners have hopefully learned from the Kenny/Comolli travesty and the deadwood is being cleared out. We still have one of the most exciting attacking options in the league, a stadium that sells out every week and the ability to beat anyone on our day.

So you have fun trying to outdo Arsenal by buying all these B list foreign players but we're quite happy with what we've got for now.

    yeah Embarassed

point still stands. They could put out a different team in every competition without looking foolish.

If they are playing a 4-2-3-1 formation they still look a little thin in the 2's and a little bloated in the 3's.

3rd team isn't really any stronger than any other top 5/6 team could put out - esp as Kakuta & Marin out on loan. the real message here is that they are able to field two complete first teams of near equal strength - not sure any of the others can do that.

I'm not sure Arsenal fans would agree with you there. Essien, Ba, Moses, Chalobah would be close to starting for them. Maybe even Hilario.

players in the 3rd team are 2-7 injuries away from a start, and Chelsea also have Courtois, Romeu etc out on loan - players who would be guaranteed starters for most EPL teams. It's frightening and yet somehow financially fair.

Great. Be proud of your history. But spare proliferating the delusion that Spurs actively seek to steal Liverpool targets alongside displaying an inability to comprehend why a player would choose Spurs over Liverpool. That doesn't sound like happy supporters, that sounds like misplaced bitter resentment based on an aversion to accepting the present.

Classic Mourinho on the Willian transfer:

B list, 2nd/3rd tier players is such a strange insult to label at an aspiring club. In football, if you could build a team full of players who are 25-20 in their position, you'll have a damm good team. And if some players are 20-10 or 10-5 then still better. If the players are talented and young enough to be improving, then even better.

Agreed. It's even stranger that in this case it came from the supporter of a club who have signed Toure, Aspas and Alberto this window Laughing

Is Luis seriously trying to run his mouth and discredit Spurs in relation to Liverpool?

We've topped you for 4 straight years by an average of nearly 10 points FFS.

Your club has been very slow in moving with the times. Top teams aren't sponsored by refrigeration companies anymore. You don't have to record "The big match" on VHS when you can have MOTD on iPlayer. SKY happened, social media happened. New players don't give a fuck about your history between 1970-90.

We weren't given £100mil in capital and have a club legend waste it in the most spectacular fashion.

Spurs have got 99 problems, but 96 aren't about Liverpool Ale

Summary of that game: pressing / defensive work nailed, wing play good, but obvious problems creating through the middle. Last season was 1 out of 3 successfully solving those same issues (being decent in wide positions), so two out of three this early is encouraging. Enjoying the back and forth trolling with ALL LIVERPOOL FANS, but no problem admitting we need a Coutinho type player behind Soldado. That could end up being Holtby, however more than likely we need to buy as cannot rely on one half fit Jarman. If we don't sign Lamela (or Eriksen, as mooted), we will lack the balance so obviously needed. Thankfully, we have Baldini. And he knows. He knows alright.

6 points in first two games. Im not sure if any of you are aware, but we once started a season with just two points from eight games. A relatively satisfying start by anyone's standards.
