So being proud of winning 18 titles and 5 European Cups (as well as countless other domestic cups) is a bad thing? What's the point of winning at all if you can never look back on it and be proud?Isco Benny wrote:Pretending? Their is a tempered realism about our position - if we go toe to toe with a club like Chelsea for a player we aren't going to win, no point going into meltdown about it in the same way Liverpool fans do on the odd signing Spurs compete and gazump them on (where were we to steal the 6 plus signings they made since January? GET YOUR OWN SCOUTS! ).Luis wrote:Hahaha, Willian has played us all. Spurs fans pretending just Lamela coming in and Bale out is still good. Cheers!
Personally, I'm still admiring how we managed to sign the likes of Vertonghen, Paulinho, Soldado, Capoue, Dembele without CL football. You see, we remember how bad we were 10 years ago and use it as a barometer to be satisfied with the present. Liverpool boast about their history, but all it does is emphasise how dissatisfied and delusional they are. You'll never be that good again, teams like little old Spurs and Chelsea and Man City with no history are going to lure players you can't. Even Arsenal is turning Suarez's head. ARSENAL! Your sense of entitlement which creates all that bitterness is like a coat which you're best off shedding for a happier life. Enjoy the eternal struggle for 4th, we are and it's fun!
How is it delusional to remember winning trophies on a consistent basis? Nostalgic maybe but not delusional.
We'll never be that good again? Well, that's your opinion. Did anyone think ten years ago that Chelsea and City were going to be winning titles and European Cups? Or that Spurs would be closer to Arsenal? I don't think so.
As far as I know we haven't lost out on players to Arsenal. We've lost out to Spurs and Chelsea but hey, we managed to get the likes of Alonso, Mascherano, Torres, Reina, Suarez, Coutinho and Sturridge whilst being in the wilderness (a wilderness where we won a European Cup, got to another final, won a few FA Cups, a few league cups, Super Cup, Uefa Cup and managed our best ever points total, missing out on the league title to a team that had Ronaldo, Tevez and Rooney)
Liverpool fans are realistic, no one is expecting a title challenge like Spurs fans are because they've signed Soldado and Holtby. We can't expect anything higher than 5th until we get taken over by owners who are willing to go that extra mile in the transfer window but we're liking what we're seeing for the most part - the idiocy of the previous owners has been demolished, the new owners have hopefully learned from the Kenny/Comolli travesty and the deadwood is being cleared out. We still have one of the most exciting attacking options in the league, a stadium that sells out every week and the ability to beat anyone on our day.
So you have fun trying to outdo Arsenal by buying all these B list foreign players but we're quite happy with what we've got for now.
